From rural penetration to metro branding: HDFC ERGO's multifaceted marketing approach

From rural penetration to metro branding: HDFC ERGO's multifaceted marketing approach

India's top private sector general insurer, HDFC ERGO General Insurance, is concentrating on raising awareness, fostering digital innovation, and fostering deeper customer connection in order to boost insurance acceptance as the country's insurance market rapidly changes. Somesh Surana, Joint President – Digital Business Group & Marketing at HDFC ERGO General Insurance, discusses the company's marketing roadmap, Gen Z strategy, the role of AI, and the brand's planned use of carefully chosen marketing techniques to reach "real Bharat" in this interview with Adgully. What is HDFC ERGO's overall marketing plan for the rest of the year, given the impending holiday season? India is working hard to promote the use of insurance. At HDFC ERGO, our approach will remain focused on category awareness, digital transformation, customer-centric innovation, and deeper engagement throughout Bharat, all while adhering to the IRDAI's 3A's framework: Awareness, Accessibility, and Affordability. To teach insurance from a young age and create a future-ready, insurance-aware India, we administer Insurance Quiz Junior. Now in its tenth edition, this innovative program began in 2016 with just 18 schools in one city and has since expanded to serve around 25 lakh kids in approximately 200 locations. In 2024, 3,200 institutions—including government and vernacular language schools—will be involved. Notably, 32% of these schools were located in small towns, and nearly equal numbers of female students participate, demonstrating that this program is truly inclusive.Building on the success of this campaign to raise awareness of insurance among the next generation, we have this year introduced a senior version of the quiz for college students, who are young adults about to enter the workforce and must make their own decisions about their future. In keeping with our goal of raising awareness of insurance at a young age, 1,100+ college students from 140+ Indian cities registered for the inaugural edition alone.Additionally, as the primary insurer for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under IRDAI's State Insurance Awareness campaign, we have been educating the public about house, auto, and health insurance through a variety of initiatives. We go out to government schools around the states with the regional version of the quiz in addition to other awareness campaigns. Thirty-three districts participated last year alone.

This year, we anticipate a 15% increase in Onam ad spending: Chandy Varghese

This year, we anticipate a 15% increase in Onam ad spending: Chandy Varghese

Brands are increasing their promotional efforts as Kerala prepares for the state's largest cultural and commercial holiday, Onam, starting today, in an effort to evoke a sense of joy among consumers. Print still has a dominant place in the media mix for advertising relating to Onam, even with the rise of digital and over-the-top platforms.Varghese Chandy, Vice President – Marketing and Advertising Sales at Malayala Manorama, discusses changing advertiser trends, consumer confidence, and why newspapers are still the preferred medium for national brands and retailers during the Onam season in an exclusive interview with Adgully. What is the general attitude of consumers this year before Onam? In comparison to other years, are you observing a shift in customer confidence or spending patterns? This year, consumers are feeling quite well. As the largest holiday in Kerala, Onam is a perfect example of the trend we have been witnessing since COVID: people are enjoying every occasion more and more. What is the anticipated increase in total brand advertising expenditure for this year's Onam festival, based on your observations? This year, we anticipate growth of at least 15%.During this Onam season, which particular industries are becoming the largest advertisers, and are there any new or surprising categories seeing an increase in spending? Every demographic is active during Onam since it is such a large celebration that touches all types of individuals. The largest category is retailers, with home appliances at the top, followed by textiles and jewelry. To help them, the brands also run their own campaigns. The largest brand category is automobiles. How is Malayala Manorama, a prominent daily, positioned to continue being a vital component of marketers' Onam plans in a market where OTT and digital are expanding quickly? We acknowledge the growth of OTT and digital. Newspapers continue to be the primary source of information for those with purchasing power, however. Additionally, only large format advertisements, such as those found in newspapers, can effectively convey offers. For this reason, many ROI-only businesses continue to concentrate mostly on newspapers. Credibility is another crucial element that newspapers have, which draws marketing campaigns to them as well. This year, are more integrated or immersive ads replacing classic ad formats? Could you provide an instance of a brand using Malayala Manorama in a creative manner? Malayala Manorama is a newspaper that prioritizes its readers. Therefore, there are many prohibitions on ads that mislead or annoy readers. Because our readers are our strongest pillars, we are extremely cautious when implementing any kind of innovation and do not want to deceive them. However, one trend we've noticed is that marketers are switching to large format ads, which are unique to newspapers and truly reflect their size.

Teymur Abasguliyev is named CEO of Nayara Energy, effective September

New Delhi: Teymur Abasguliyev was named as Nayara Energy's new chief executive officer (CEO) on Tuesday. Abasguliyev will lead the company, which is supported by Russian oil giant Rosneft, starting in September. Abasguliyev has been in charge of corporate governance, financing, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and extensive organizational reorganization since 2013 when he was appointed chief financial officer for group companies at SOCAR Türkiye Enerji A.Ş., an Azerbaijani energy company. In a statement, Nayara, the biggest private fuel retailer in India, stated, "Teymur brings over two decades of diverse international leadership experience in the energy sector, renowned for his expertise in driving organizational transformation and delivering sustainable growth."After Alessandro des Dorides left in July due to Nayara's placement under EU sanctions, the Mumbai-based company appointed Sergey Denisov, its chief development officer, as interim CEO.Given that Nayara has been subject to European Union sanctions, the nomination comes at a critical moment. The EU imposed sanctions on Nayara's 20-million-ton refinery in Vadinar, Gujarat, on July 18. The restrictions were intended to limit Russia's capacity to generate energy and oil profits while waging a protracted conflict against Ukraine. Nayara later declared that it is actively pursuing all legal alternatives to overturn the EU's judgment, calling the action irrational, unilateral, and a violation of international law. The business asserted that the sanctions violate international standards and undercut India's sovereignty.Nayara stated on July 21 that it intends to make long-term investments of more than ₹70,000 crore in a variety of projects, including ethanol plants, petrochemicals, and the expansion of marketing infrastructure.Since August 2017, Nayara, the company that runs the 20-million-ton refinery in Vadinar, has invested over ₹14,000 crore in a number of projects, including modernizing existing refining facilities, purchasing a new petrochemical plant, and other new infrastructure projects. The company said it is still dedicated to India's growth story. The corporation stated earlier this month that, in spite of the European Union's sanctions, its refinery operations and supply of its petroleum products nationwide continue at a "healthy run rate." It added that it is working with partners and several government agencies to ensure smooth transactions and operational stability.

RBI Can Still Cut Rates Despite Neutral Stance, Says Governor Malhotra

RBI Can Still Cut Rates Despite Neutral Stance, Says Governor Malhotra

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra has clarified that the central bank’s current “neutral” policy stance should not be misunderstood as a signal that interest rates cannot be reduced. Speaking to reporters, Malhotra explained that neutrality gives the RBI flexibility—it can raise or lower rates depending on how inflation and the broader economy behave.   “There seems to be a misconception that a neutral stance only allows us to hold or hike rates,” Malhotra said. “That’s not the case. We can cut rates if the situation demands.” His remarks come at a time when markets and analysts are closely watching for signs of a rate cut amid easing inflation and global monetary shifts.   Since February 2023, the RBI has maintained interest rates, focusing on controlling inflation while monitoring economic growth. Recently, inflation has slowed, increasing expectations that a rate cut might encourage borrowing and investment without exacerbating inflation.   Malhotra stressed that the RBI remains data-driven and won’t rush into decisions. “We will act based on incoming data. Our primary goal is to maintain stability while supporting sustainable growth,” he said. This balanced approach, he added, is what the neutral stance is meant to reflect.   In short, while the RBI hasn’t cut rates yet, it’s keeping the door open. The message is clear: flexibility is key, and decisions will be shaped by how the economy performs in the coming months.

Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns: Election Commission to Soon Begin VP Poll Process, No Rush from Government

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has stepped down from his post, setting the stage for the Election Commission to begin preparations for the next Vice Presidential election. While the poll process is expected to be announced soon, sources say the government is in no particular hurry to push it forward.   Under constitutional guidelines, the Election Commission is required to hold the Vice President's election within a set timeframe. Early talks within the Commission have already begun, and a formal schedule is likely to be shared shortly. In the meantime, the Rajya Sabha will operate under temporary arrangements, as Dhankhar also held the position of Chairman of the House.   Despite the vacancy, government insiders suggest there is no urgency to fast-track the election. With no immediate parliamentary session on the calendar, the administration seems content to let the process unfold at its natural pace.   Jagdeep Dhankhar, who took office in 2022, was known for his active role in parliamentary affairs and his firm stance on constitutional issues. His resignation comes at a time when the political climate is heating up ahead of several key state elections.   As the Election Commission gears up to announce the timeline, the focus will now shift to who could be nominated as India’s next Vice President. Until then, the process will proceed steadily, without political pressure to rush.

Indian Railways Launches 'RailOne': A One-Stop App for All Train Travelers

Indian Railways has launched RailOne, a new all-in-one mobile app designed to make train travel easier, faster, and more convenient for passengers across the country. Instead of juggling multiple apps for booking tickets, tracking trains, ordering food, or filing complaints, travelers can now do it all in one place. Available for free on Android and iOS, the app has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and brings together key services previously spread across different platforms like IRCTC, UTS, Rail Madad, and NTES.   RailOne allows users to book both reserved and unreserved tickets, buy platform tickets and monthly passes, check PNR status, track live train movement, find coach positions, and order food directly to their seat. It also offers a journey planner, digital wallet (R-Wallet) for payments, and a built-in complaint and refund system. What makes the app especially user-friendly is the option to log in with your IRCTC or UTS credentials—or simply use an OTP as a guest, which is ideal for occasional travelers or those unfamiliar with railway apps.   One of the app's biggest strengths is its clean and intuitive interface. Whether you're a daily commuter or someone planning a long-distance journey, you can find everything in one place without needing tech expertise.   A standout feature is the new R-Wallet, a digital wallet built into the app that lets you pay securely and even gives a small discount on certain bookings. RailOne also supports multiple Indian languages and has a clean, user-friendly design, making it accessible for a wide range of users, regardless of their familiarity with technology.   Overall, RailOne feels like a much-needed upgrade in how we interact with Indian Railways. It’s convenient, comprehensive, and built with real-world travel needs in mind. Whether you're planning a long journey or just heading to work, this app is a simple way to stay connected to everything you need—without the clutter.   While the app is still fresh and may face a few technical hiccups, Indian Railways is actively working to smooth out the experience. They’re also rolling out a powerful new backend system that can handle heavy booking traffic, set to be fully in place by the end of 2025. This means faster response times and fewer delays when booking tickets or checking train status.   The RailOne app marks a big step forward in simplifying train travel in India, offering passengers a smoother, smarter, and more connected experience.   If you travel by train often—or even just once in a while—RailOne is worth checking out. From booking tickets and tracking your train to grabbing a meal en route or filing a complaint, this app is built to save time and reduce hassle, all from your phone.

Rice, rinse, repeat: A method for eliminating hair loss issues with rice water

Rice, rinse, repeat: A method for eliminating hair loss issues with rice water

Like a cunning direct message, haircare issues appear in life and never seem to go away. Hair fall, split ends, and frizzy hair are frequent problems that practically everyone complains about. However, sometimes a straightforward home remedy is all that is needed to solve the problem. In nations like China and Japan, people have been rinsing their hair and nourishing the scalp with misty water that has a faintly milky quality. Some promote it as a hair elixir. We are referring to rice water, which is a starchy, hazy liquid that is produced by boiling or soaking rice.People have been using rice water for generations. It is thought to improve hair health, lessen breakage, and give hair a glossy, lengthy appearance.Rice water is more than simply a do-it-yourself fad. Although it enjoyed a brief period of popularity, its true origins date back hundreds of years. A nutritional powerhouse is fermented rice water. It contains vital proteins, vitamins, minerals, and certain amino acids that support the growth and health of hair follicles. Protein and amino acid concentration may contribute to the hair's strength, volume, and texture. The main ingredient is inositol, a carbohydrate that increases the suppleness and strength of hair. For this reason, rinsing with rice water can improve texture, encourage development, and help with mending. Despite the lack of scientific proof, rice water has become increasingly popular. A number of hair care companies have even launched product lines that include conditioners, hair treatments, and other items made from rice. Why is rice water a convenient option? Since it's essentially a beauty elixir that's conveniently located on your kitchen shelf. This is how you can utilize it: When the rice water is done, apply it to your hair and spend a few minutes massaging your scalp gently. This enhances blood circulation in addition to assisting with the water's uniform distribution. Additionally, you can use it after shampooing. Before rinsing, let it stay for 20 to 30 minutes to give the nutrients time to absorb.

Increased heart attacks: An explanation of lifestyle, genetics, and novel risk factors

An poor diet, inactivity, and smoking are among the lifestyle choices that lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and an increased risk of heart attacks. A family history of heart disease, particularly early-onset heart disease, suggests a propensity, thus genetic factors also come into play. Furthermore, chronic diseases like chronic kidney disease, some chronic inflammatory diseases, and even mental health conditions like anxiety and depression are examples of novel risk factors. These conditions can interact with lifestyle and genetic factors to raise risk, especially during stressful times.Aspects of Lifestyle Unhealthy Diet: Diets heavy in sodium, cholesterol, trans fats, and saturated fats can cause atherosclerosis, or plaque accumulation in the arteries, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol levels.Physical Inactivity: Living a sedentary lifestyle raises the risk of heart disease as well as other risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity.Smoking: Smoking raises the risk of heart attack and stroke, making it a major risk factor.Alcohol Abuse: Drinking too much alcohol increases the risk of heart disease by raising blood pressure and lipid levels.Obesity: Being overweight or obese raises the risk of heart disease and is associated with risk factors like diabetes and high blood pressure.Factors related to genetics Family History: A higher genetic predisposition to heart attacks may be indicated by a significant family history of early heart disease or specific genetic disorders, such as familial hypercholesterolemia.

Axar Patel leads DC to a decisive victory over Rishabh Pant's LSG on a night that contrasts for the captains.

Returning to Lucknow for the first time since his unsatisfactory dismissal from the team, KL Rahul ended the game with a spectacular six to go undefeated in a run-chase with a 42-ball 57.On a night full of stories at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium, the Delhi Capitals won by 8 wickets in a 160-run chase, solidifying their status as this season's title contenders. KL Rahul, who is making his first appearance in Lucknow after his unsatisfactory dismissal from the team, ended the game with a spectacular six to go undefeated in a run chase with a 42-ball 57. In the twelfth over of their respective innings, LSG and DC both lost their second wicket. Axar Patel entered when a composed Abishek Porel collapsed. At this point, DC was only under a little pressure to take a few wickets, but it might have grown complicated because new batters take time to get comfortable. With two sixes over the midwicket zone, his favorite hit against spin, Axar took out Ravi Bishnoi in the very next over after Avesh Khan had dismissed him after four dot balls. In the following over, facing Avesh once more after being outscored by a few deliveries, he decided to take a chance and hit a four to try to clear the fielder at mid-off. The most impressive stroke came from Shardul Thakur, who took up a not-so-short ball with the weight still on his backfoot and sent it over long on for a six.

Nitish Rana on RR not selecting him for Super Over against DC despite 51 off 28:

Nitish Rana on RR not selecting him for Super Over against DC despite 51 off 28: "One person never takes the call."

Despite hitting 51 off 28 balls against the Delhi Capitals, Nitish Rana was left out of the Super Over lineup as the Rajasthan Royals entered with Hetmyer and Riyan Parag.Nitish Rana remained in the middle until the 18th over of the chase after smashing 51 off 28 balls. At the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Rajasthan Royals sent neither batsman to bat despite Yashasvi Jaiswal's 51 off 37 balls in the Super Over against the Delhi Capitals. Eyes were rolling when Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag came out to bat in the Super Over. Rana wasn't even on the list of the three batters for the Super Over, but Jaiswal was chosen to bat following a wicket fall.RR's choice proved to be a poor one as Mitchell Starc of DC cramped the Hetmyer for space with yorkers and the reverse swing, allowing him to begin the Super Over with a dot ball. The Australian bowler was hit for four after missing his mark on the next delivery, but he recovered with another low full toss in the third ball. A single was taken by Hetmyer.Starc's low full toss was hit by Riyan Parag over third man for a boundary, sometimes known as a no-ball. After it appeared that RR would easily reach 15 with three balls left, the game took yet another sharp turn. RR was bowled out for just 11 as Parag and Jaiswal were ran out in the following ball.KL Rahul and Tristian Stubbs smash two sixes in the first three balls of Sandeep Sharma's Super Over to give DC a historic victory, so the total was insufficient. Following the game, Nitish Rana stated that the decision to send Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer instead of him for the Super Over was made by the RR management. Rana said he didn't have an alternative response, adding that if Hetmyer had hit a couple of sixes in the Super Over, the questions would have been different."The call is answered by management, not a single individual. Along with two other senior players and coaches, the captain is present. You wouldn't be asking this question if Shimron Hetmyer had hit two sixes. I'll respond with the same response. I have no other response. Every choice we made was the right one. Everyone knows that Hetmyer is our finisher. During the press conference, Rana stated, "He has previously delivered."

India's bold strategy aids in a quick T20 reconstruction

India's bold strategy aids in a quick T20 reconstruction

The world champions are creating an environment where players perform well without worrying about keeping their spots in the squad or taking wickets.Kolkata: Although it's early, the process and outcomes give hope that India would successfully defend the T20 World Cup at home the following year. Despite the pessimism caused by the Test and ODI transition issues, India's T20 trajectory stands out thanks to series victories against South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and now England. Even more so when one considers that Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been parachuted in.This is most likely a greater accomplishment. However, they have approached it virtually undetected. No culture of stars. Verify. No set order for batting. Verify. Just a group of young, talented, and incredibly self-assured cricket players going about their business without worrying about career curves. By the way, all IPL linchpins.Captain Suryakumar Yadav acknowledges his lack of quality as he is left off the Champions Trophy roster. Abhishek Sharma thinks a ball is there to be struck, hence he doesn't count returns. As long as Tilak Varma is at the crease, the second Twenty20 match in Chennai demonstrated that no equation is too difficult. And the fact that India lost to 12/3 and then 79/5 at Pune on Friday, yet still managed to score 181, demonstrated that the previous game's disaster chasing in Rajkot was really a fluke. The realization that not everything can be managed lies at the core of this long-term upsurge. Earlier this week, Sitanshu Kotak, India's new batting coach, said it. "To achieve a score of 200 or 225, and if you are

Opposition states point up a Rs 2 lakh crore income risk and demand compensation for the GST rejig.

Opposition states point up a Rs 2 lakh crore income risk and demand compensation for the GST rejig.

Opposition-ruled states demanded a clear compensation system on Friday, claiming that the Center's proposal to restructure the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates could result in losses of between Rs 1.5 and Rs 2 lakh crore. On September 3 and 4, they intend to bring up the matter at the GST Council meeting. To create a joint proposal, the finance ministers of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Punjab, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh convened. In order to offset income loss, they recommended levying an additional tax on luxury items and sin in addition to the proposed 40% rate. They claimed that the governments ought to receive a portion of the profits. Under the new arrangement, states may lose 15–20% of their GST earnings, according to Karnataka Finance Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. He added that states should receive compensation for five years until revenues stabilize, stating that the 20% loss in GST revenue would "seriously destabilize the fiscal structure of state governments across the country."According to Byre Gowda, the revenue-neutral rate (RNR) was 14.4% during the GST launch and then dropped to 11% following rationalization. He cautioned that the Center's plan to lower rates and slabs might further lower the net rate to 10%. "The revenue interest of the states should be safeguarded." People will suffer, development efforts will be hampered, and state autonomy will be weakened if there is a significant decline in state government revenue, he said. The Center has proposed replacing the present four slabs of five, twelve, eighteen, and twenty-eight percent plus cess with a two-slab structure of five and eighteen percent. Only sin and ultra-luxury goods would be subject to a 40% tariff.

Akhilesh reiterates his accusations of 18,000 affidavits and voter deletion, but the picture in the four seats he identified is more complicated.

At least three district magistrates from Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki, Jaunpur, and Kasganj districts have refuted claims made by Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, that there were widespread voter deletions and irregularities during the state Assembly elections in 2022.Speaking to media in the Parliament complex on Monday, Akhilesh stated that the SP has provided the Election Commission (EC) with affidavits regarding the matter and provided some documents that, in his opinion, indicated the irregularities. In the 2022 elections, he then expressly mentioned "targeted" voter deletions against "certain communities" in the seats of Amanpur, Bakshi Ka Talab, Jaunpur Sadar, and Kursi Assembly.Bakshi Ka Talab is in the district of Lucknow, Kursi is in Barabanki, Jaunpur Sadar is in Jaunpur district, and the Amanpur Assembly seat is in Kasganj district. The BJP won all four in the Assembly elections of 2017 and 2022. Together with the Congress, the SP had run in the 2017 Assembly elections. When the Congress and SP campaigned together once more in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, their alliance won every seat in the Lok Sabha that these Assembly segments are under. Barabanki DM Shashank Tripathi stated in a post that two voters from the Kursi Assembly constituency had submitted affidavits alleging that their names had been mistakenly removed from the election lists. Nevertheless, the DM stated that after investigation, it was discovered that both individuals' names were correctly listed on the electoral rolls.

Rare glimpse of Survival Video: Survivor Walks Out Of Air India Crash Site, Plane Burns Behind Him

A new video from the Air India crash shows a heartbreaking but powerful moment: the only known survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, walking away from the wreckage while the plane burns behind him. In the video, some bystanders are seen shouting as smoke billows in the background. Suddenly, Ramesh emerges from the burning wreckage and is spotted by one of the bystanders. The flight had just taken off from Ahmedabad for London when it crashed into a residential area, killing 241 people on board and dozens more on the ground. Somehow, Ramesh—who was sitting near an emergency exit—was thrown clear when part of the plane broke off. Injured and dazed, he managed to walk to help.   The video of him walking out of the flames has struck a deep chord with people around the world. It’s a rare glimpse of survival in the middle of so much loss. While investigators try to understand what went wrong—whether it was mechanical failure, pilot error, or something else—this single moment of survival has become a symbol of both the horror and the human strength in the face of tragedy.

Air India Turns Back or Reroutes 16 Flights After Trouble Breaks Out Between Israel and Iran

Air India Turns Back or Reroutes 16 Flights After Trouble Breaks Out Between Israel and Iran

Due to rising tensions after Israel’s recent strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities and Iran's decision to close its airspace, 16 Air India flights had to either turn back or take a different route on Friday, June 13. These changes mostly impacted flights heading toward Europe and the US, as they usually pass through that region. Air India shared a message saying they’re sorry for the disruption and are doing their best to help affected passengers. This includes offering hotel stays, full refunds for cancellations, or free rescheduling for those who need it. The airline also mentioned they’re working on other travel arrangements to get passengers to their destinations as smoothly as possible. Travelers are advised to check their flight status regularly as the situation is still developing.   What About Other Airlines? It’s not just Air India feeling the pressure. Other big airlines like Lufthansa, Emirates, and British Airways have also changed their routes or canceled flights through the region. This part of the Middle East is really important for flights going between Asia, Europe, and America, so this situation could affect a lot of global travel for a while. What Should You Do? If you have a flight coming up, it’s a good idea to double-check the status before heading to the airport. Air India has said they’ll refund tickets or help rebook flights if plans were thrown off by all this.

Trust trap: How millions are being stolen by deepfake video scams

Trust trap: How millions are being stolen by deepfake video scams

Imagine this: George Clooney himself is sending you video messages every day; they are warm, endearing, and incredibly believable. When a woman in Argentina connected with "Clooney" on Facebook, she thought that. She engaged with him for six weeks, thinking it was the Hollywood star, and was entertained by his friendly, realistic videos. Then one day the pitch arrived: purchase a special card, become a member of a fan club, and have access to rare employment prospects. She deposited over Rs 11 lakh (roughly) because she trusted the Hollywood legend, only to find out—after contacting the FBI—that she had been tricked by an AI-generated deepfake. February 2024: Arup, a global corporation based in Britain, loses $25 million as a result of deepfake fraud. To deceive an employee into making fraudulent wire transfers, fraudsters created a phony videoconference using deepfake technology.
