Pakistan Minister Establishes 'Suryakumar Yadav Condition' for Asia Cup Trophy Transfer to India

In light of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rejecting requests for a trophy handover ceremony, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) leader Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly introduced a new condition to break the deadlock regarding the Asia Cup 2025. During an ACC meeting on Tuesday, BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar put Naqvi on the defensive by requesting that the trophy be stored in the Asian body's Dubai office for shipping to India.Naqvi, however, demonstrated little to no willingness to comply with the requests from the Indian board. A report by the Pakistani media outlet Geo Super states that Naqvi even opposed the mention of the trophy handover in the meeting, as it was not included in the original agenda. During a virtual meeting, Naqvi informed Rajeev Shukla, "This item was not included in the agenda for the ACC meeting." Naqvi, in response to the BCCI's insistence on the trophy's return, stated: "If the Indian team wants the trophy, the captain can come to the ACC office and collect it from me. "Witnessing Naqvi's lack of cooperation, the BCCI warned the heads of the ACC and PCB that if the trophy is not transferred to the Indian team within a specified timeframe, they will lodge a complaint with the ICC concerning this issue. As PTI reported, a source stated, “It was clarified that the BCCI would lodge a complaint with the ICC, and Shelar made a brief exit from the meeting.” During the tournament, the two teams faced off three times, with India emerging victorious on each occasion, including in the final. During the event, India upheld a 'no-handshake policy' with Pakistani players, which angered the PCB.Following the Pahalgam terror attack, where Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 Indian tourists, tensions between the two neighbors have reached unprecedented levels.

The Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Interior Minister of the country, Mohsin Naqvi, who embarrassed himself internationally by taking the Asia Cup trophy after India declined to accept it from him, is now asserting that India has dishonored the spirit of the game. After suffering a crushing defeat to India, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi—whose X account is withheld in India—reacted on the microblogging platform to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's congratulatory message following the match.“If war was how you gauged your pride, your shameful defeats against Pakistan are already chronicled in history. No cricket match can change that reality. Naqvi stated, "Dragging war into sport merely showcases desperation and dishonors the true spirit of the game. "PM Modi commended India’s renowned victory earlier, stating, “Operation Sindoor on the games field.” The result is identical: India wins! Congratulations to our cricketers.Naqvi's misunderstanding of historical events and facts is evident, and he requires a serious reminder of how often Pakistan has had to submit to Indian superiority in conflicts. Beginning with the signing of the Instrument of Surrender by Lieutenant General A.A.K. Niazi, head of Pakistani forces, to the Indian Army in 1971, which ended the war, and continuing through to the Kargil Conflict, where former PM Nawaz Sharif acknowledged their mistake in breaching the Lahore declaration.

The actions of Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan elicited a flurry of responses online, as numerous fans and commentators condemned the two for their childish behavior. As Pakistan was gearing up for its last Super 4 Asia Cup match against Bangladesh, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi fielded questions about Rauf and Farhan's gestures during the game.In an interview with journalists on Wednesday, Shaheen acknowledged that the team should not concentrate on on-field celebrations, as their purpose is to play cricket. “Listen, our task is to play cricket. “To be honest, everyone has the right to express themselves as they wish,” Shaheen stated when questioned about the criticism directed at Haris and Sahibzada for their actions against India. Shaheen attempted to minimize the outcry resulting from Pakistan's on-field conduct, stating, "Everyone has their own thoughts." “Each person has their own respect.” Each person believes that their way of thinking is the correct one. However, it is our duty to play cricket. And we have emerged victorious in the tri-nation series. Our goal is to win the Asia Cup. As a team, we are doing our utmost, with God's blessing,” he added. In the current Asia Cup, Pakistan has already experienced two back-to-back losses to India. We are prepared for any team that arrives. „Wir werden sie besiegen“, sagte er.

Beyond the scorecard: How Suryakumar Yadav's handshake snub stung Pakistan

Beyond the scorecard: How Suryakumar Yadav's handshake snub stung Pakistan

It was petty posturing on the part of the Indian squad to refuse to shake hands with the players from Pakistan following the Asia Cup match. The slight seemed like a cheesy move that sacrificed cricket's spirit for show. It diminished dignity while projecting indignation.India has the option to stand up outside the field, to prioritize civility over showmanship, and to prioritize elegance over petty behavior. India made a poor decision that devalued both sport and statement. The world might have interpreted the BCCI's decision to boycott Pakistan completely as a sign of conscience. Instead, a handshake was weaponized, which confused the message, taxed the participants, and devalued the game.If the BCCI had decided to completely boycott Pakistan, the world There is no denying the background. India was still hurting from the Pahalgam terror assault, and the country needed symbolic support. However, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) really wanted to make a statement, they should have done it sooner by refusing to participate or boycotting Pakistan's participation.could have seen it as conscience clarity. Instead, a handshake was weaponized, which confused the message, taxed the participants, and devalued the game. The players' duty should have been straightforward after they decided to challenge the match: compete and then show the sportsmanship that makes sport what it is. That idea is embodied in the handshake. The BCCI blurred boundaries that ought to have been clear by using players to stage the protest. It compelled cricket players to represent the politics of the state, a role they were never intended to play. Administrators making the decision rather than athletes dramatizing it would have been a logical position. Instead, the game's spirit suffered needless harm as a result of a confused gesture that lacked both a strong policy and true solidarity.Even worse, this was not an emotional outburst. It was clearly planned and meticulously orchestrated, according to reports. Both captains avoided the customary pre-match handshake during the toss, which was apparently instructed to Pakistan beforehand by the match referee. Following a decisive seven-wicket victory, the Indian players promptly withdrew from the field to shake hands, closing the changing room doors in the face of bewildered and dismayed Pakistani players who had waited to congratulate them. Salman Ali Agha, the captain of Pakistan, responded by abstaining from the post-match presentation in a quiet protest.Later, Pakistan's management formally complained to the ICC, ACC, and match referee, claiming that the snub was disrespectful to cricket and unsportsmanlike.

Neeraj and I deserve a medal, but if he is better than me I will respect that: Julian Weber

At the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Germany's Julian Weber emerged as the primary contender to World Champion Neeraj Chopra with the largest throw of the year, measuring 91.51 meters. In an interview with The Indian Express from his training base in Miyazaki, Japan, ahead of the Tokyo World Championships, Weber discussed joining the 90-meter club, his friendship with Chopra, the reasons why champions are coming from all over the world, and how growing up in a handball family affected him. Excerpts:The throw was at a decent angle technically. The block (blocking leg) always gave me a little trouble, but that day it went better. The rhythm and build-up were fluid. In Doha, we also got a favorable backwind, which was beneficial.Julian Weber: Every action has an impact. I feel calmer and more at ease mentally during tournaments. I make an effort to concentrate more on the technique and myself. My technique has significantly improved, including how I approach the throw, the javelin's angle, how I hold it, putting my right leg closer to the throwing direction, being compact in the throwing posture, and throwing farther forward. In addition, I have been training for some time now without suffering any serious ailments. I am therefore happy, enjoying myself, and throwing far.

It was the quiet strength drawn from the memory of his late father, and the steady support of a senior athlete who guided him through moments of self-doubt.   Shahnavaz lost his father when he was a child, but he remembers the quiet encouragement and love that pushed him to keep chasing his dreams. “He never saw me jump, but I still feel him with me every time I step onto the track,” Shahnavaz shared, his voice steady.   His breakthrough was not achieved alone. A seasoned long jumper from his training camp took him under his wing, offering advice and reassurance in the weeks leading up to the competition. “There were days I thought I wasn’t good enough. He kept reminding me why I started,” Shahnavaz said.   Now, with a major medal in hand, Shahnavaz stands at the beginning of what could be a promising journey. But more than the win, it's the personal bonds — the memory of a father, and the presence of a mentor — that ground his feet and push him forward.

England Drop to Third in WTC After Over Rate Penalty at Lord’s

England Drop to Third in WTC After Over Rate Penalty at Lord’s

England have been docked points in the World Test Championship (WTC) for maintaining a slow over rate during the first Test against the West Indies at Lord’s. The deduction has caused them to slip to third place in the current WTC standings.   According to the ICC, England fell short of the required over rate and were penalized one point for each over they failed to bowl in time. They were also fined a portion of their match fee, in line with standard regulations. The over rate was assessed based on the actual playing time and overs bowled, excluding stoppages and allowances.   This penalty affects England’s progress in the WTC cycle, where every point is crucial in the race to the final. Despite winning the Lord’s Test convincingly, the deduction has narrowed their lead over other contenders. Australia and India now sit ahead in the standings, with England closely trailing behind.   The second Test of the series will be held at Trent Bridge, where England will look to not only continue their strong performance but also avoid further penalties that could impact their WTC campaign.
