Prior to its eagerly anticipated launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, the OnePlus Watch 2 has been unveiled. According to the company, it will debut on February 26 at 8:30 p.m. IST (4:00 p.m. CET). Three years have passed since the 2021 launch of the OnePlus Watch, the smartwatch's predecessor. The consumer tech brand did disclose some information about its design and battery life, but not many important specifications. Unusual for OnePlus, a community post on the company's website disclosed the launch date and gave a sneak peek at a few of the Watch 2's features. A pre-reserve pass has been used to open early reservations, and a microsite for the smartwatch has also been developed. As of the writing of this article, all 1500 of the passes were sold out. The OnePlus Watch 2's sapphire crystal glass and stainless steel chassis were highlighted in the announcement post. There will be two color options: radiant steel and black steel. The smartwatch will have up to 100 hours of battery life in "full Smart Mode," according to the company. If accurate, this will surpass the battery life of the Apple Watch Series 9, which in our review we discovered to provide about 2.5 days when in low-power mode. Since the post mentioned recently released products like the foldable OnePlus Open, OnePlus Buds Pro 2, and OnePlus Tab, some attention was also paid to ecosystem building. But no mention of ecosystem features was made. Additionally, the term "meticulous health monitoring" surfaced, suggesting that there may be significant improvements to the health tracking system. Some more important details about the upcoming smartwatch have leaked according to earlier reports. The Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset and a 1.43-inch AMOLED display are possible features of the OnePlus Watch 2. Although Wear OS is anticipated to run on it, it is unknown if Wear OS 3 or Wear OS 4 will be used. To confirm that it might be available in India at the same time as its global launch, a landing page has also been created on Amazon mentioning the same launch date and time.

Apple Reduces Prices On The iPhone 15 In China With An Unusual Discount.

Hong Kong: In response to increasing competitive pressure in the largest smartphone market in the world, Apple is offering unusual discounts on its iPhones in China, slashing retail prices by as much as 500 yuan ($70). On Monday, the US tech giant's Chinese website displayed a 5% price reduction on select iPhone models. The time-limited promotion, branded as a Lunar New Year event, will last from January 18 through January 21 in a lead-up to the holiday in mid-February. In China, sales of Apple's most recent iPhone 15 series of phones have been significantly lower than those of earlier models.Local competitors like Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies provide competitive models, and according to sources, some businesses and government agencies have been restricting employees' use of Apple devices, which is similar to the US government's ban on Chinese apps due to security concerns. According to a client note from Jefferies analysts, Chinese iPhone sales fell 30% in the first week of 2024 compared to the same period the previous year. Sales had already decreased 3% for the entire year of 2023. Analysts predict that this year will see more competition. For years, Apple has not lowered the cost of its most recent iPhone models. The cuts come after it surprised the market by not raising prices for the iPhone 15 series at its September launch.

Once more, Apple is not allowed to sell watches with blood oxygen sensors in the United States.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit announced on Thursday that Apple will once more be prohibited from selling watches equipped with blood oxygen sensors.   Apple's attempt to overturn an ITC ban on the company selling the impacted watches in the US was not addressed by the court order issued on Wednesday. However, while that appeal is pending, it lifted an injunction that had prevented the ban from going into effect. An intellectual property dispute with the medical device company Masimo is the reason for the ban. In October, the International Trade Commission found that Apple’s blood oxygen sensors had infringed on Masimo’s intellectual property.During Wednesday afternoon trading, Apple shares saw a slight decline.   Apple is not allowed to import the aforementioned devices, which include the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2. Retailers who still have the impacted watches in stock may continue to sell them, but Apple decided in December to temporarily remove them from both its online and physical stores.  Earlier this week, court filings suggested that Apple had received approval from U.S. Customs for a modified version of its Apple Watches that lack the blood oxygen feature and therefore no longer infringe on Masimo’s intellectual property. It could open a path for a modified Apple Watch to return to U.S. store shelves. An Apple representative earlier this week declined to comment on the Customs decision. After turning down a partnership, Masimo had claimed that Apple had stolen some of its top executives and replicated its technology.   Last month, Masimo CEO Joe Kiani told CNBC that his company is willing to reach a settlement with Apple. If Apple must continue to keep its latest smartwatches from U.S. stores, it could complicate repairs at Apple stores, which often swap broken devices with replacements. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the denial.

This soil-powered fuel cell, according to scientists, can "run forever."

A group out of Northwestern University in Illinois has created a novel fuel cell that they say can draw energy from soil-dwelling microorganisms. The fuel, which is about the size of a book, may be utilized to power subterranean sensors for precision farming and green infrastructure. It might develop into a viable, renewable replacement for batteries made of hazardous, flammable chemicals that seep into the earth when buried. Additionally, the resources needed to make batteries are obtained through supply chains impacted by conflict and add to the waste generated by electronics. The new fuel cell was tested by the researchers by powering touch and soil moisture sensor sensors. The results were published in the Proceedings of the Association for Computing Machinery on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable, and Ubiquitous Technologies. One can track passing animals with the former capability. In order to relay data to a nearby base station by reflecting pre-existing radio frequency signals, the researchers additionally equipped the soil-powered sensor with a tiny antenna. “The number of devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) is constantly growing. Even if we envision a world where trillions of these devices exist, we are unable to construct each and every one of them using hazardous materials like heavy metals, lithium, and environmental pollutants. We need to find alternatives that can provide low amounts of energy to power a decentralized network of devices. In a search for solutions, we looked to soil microbial fuel cells, which use special microbes to break down soil and use that low amount of energy to power sensors. As long as there is organic carbon in the soil for the microbes to break down, the fuel cell can potentially last forever,” said Northwestern alumnus Bill Yen, who led the work, in

Additionally, the R1 comes with a clickable scroll wheel that allows you to interact with the built-in voice assistant and navigate the user interface. The device, which was created in partnership with Teenage Engineering, resembles a half-flip phone but uses voice commands to operate instead of apps, akin to Humane AI Pins. The gadget also has a speaker and two microphones. Like the Humane AI Pin, you can use the Rabbit R1 to interact by holding down the "Push-to-talk" button, which activates the device's built-in voice assistant and allows you to ask any question you have without using an app. Similar to Humane, Rabbit brags that the R1 has a "all day" battery, but it withholds information regarding its capacity. In a video demo, company CEO Jesse Lyu says that the Rabbit R1 is powered by an in-house developed operating system called RabbitOS that uses a ‘Large Action Model’ instead of a large language model like ChatGPT. He says that they wanted to “find a universal solution that can trigger services”

At MWC 2024, brands show the future of connected cars and aerial mobility

While Wireless and Mobile technologies took centerstage at the just concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, there was also some spotlight at the connected cars and aerial mobility at arguably the world’s most important consumer tech show. The Smart Mobility Summit at MWC brought together industry leaders from both established automotive and drone companies, along with tech pioneers. The transportation and travel sectors face a dual challenge — increasing capacity and reducing emissions. Embracing digital transformation is crucial to overcoming these hurdles, paving the way for substantial growth in both connected cars and aerial mobility. And this transformation was the key topic of discussion among the industry executives who gathered at the summit. The aerial mobility market is expected to reach $68.1 billion by 2032, growing at 35.2 per cent annually. Connected car drivers in the US alone are projected to increase by 15.5 per cent by 2027, reaching 174.8 million. Mobile network technologies like 5G and network slicing enable new features like autonomous driving, piloting, and C-V2X communication. Additionally, the growing availability of technologies like 4G and LPWA lays the foundation for reliable, always-on connectivity for transportation networks. The discussions were also important because deploying connected transportation solutions varies by region and requires a deep understanding of available networks and technologies. Given that the MWC saw attendance of industry veterans from different parts of the world, they could share knowledge and discuss smart solutions relevant to them. Led by industry leaders and experts, the summit covered topics such as enhancing cars with new connected features, recent advancements and challenges in smart drones, and mid-to-long-term transformation, including the role of new network technologies, electrification, and the use of teleoperation and digital twins. The Smart Mobility Summit also presented a unique opportunity to industry veterans to connect with key players who are shaping the future of mobility.

Now, the company has confirmed that it has started to roll out the new look for its sign-in page. Google claims that this change will offer sign-in and sign-up pages a “more modern look.” This design aligns with the company's Material Design which is available across its other products.  Google’s new sign-in page: Availability and other detailsIn a blog post, Google noted that users will see the updated interface across web and mobile devices. The company claims that this change will be visible for both Workspace admins as well as individual users with personal Google accounts. The rollout of the new design has already started and will reach users gradually. The redesigned Google sign-in page is scheduled to complete by March 4. However, the older login page will be available for users if they are using an older version of the browser. Google has also clarified that this is strictly a change in visual appearance and there will be no functionality impacts for this change. The new design of the sign-in page is aligned horizontally which will work better across multiple screen types. This includes large and wide screens, like the ones with a Pixel Fold or a Pixel Tablet.Just like the older version of the page, Google will also prompt users for their passwords, passkeys or other authentication in the new design as well.

Massive, out-of-control satellite to crash into Earth today

The European Space Agency’s (ESA) ERS-2 satellite weighed 2.5 tonnes at launch and was cutting-edge technology when it launched in 1995. But now, the massive satellite is out of control and could hurtle into the planet’s atmosphere on Wednesday. ESA’s latest estimate suggests that ERS-2 will reenter the atmosphere at 9.19 PM on Wednesday, February 21. The risks of the satellite falling into populated areas is negligible but not non-existent. ERS-2 was the space agency’s second earth observation mission after ERS-1. It carried many payloads including a “Synthetic Aperture Radar” and a radar altimeter to study sea surface temperatures and winds. ERS-2 also had sensors for atmospheric ozone research. In the year 2001, after several of its on-board gyro systems failed, a group of engineers from ESA and other industries invented a new way to fly and control the satellite systems. After that, the on-board data storage system of the satellite failed in 2003. This meant that the mission had to be redesigned as “real-time,” meaning that it only relayed science data directly at the time of capturing it. These changes meant that the satellite could function well beyond its intended lifespan. After completing more than 82,000 orbits around the planet, the satellite’s mission ended on September 5, 2011. That is when they “passivated” the satellite, making sure that all its batteries and pressurised systems were emptied or made safe to avoid the chance of an explosion. But before ESA switched off all systems on board, they used the satellite’s remaining fuel for a series of manoeuvres that lowered its altitude from 785 kilometres to about 573 kilometres. That put the satellite on the path that finally sees it reentering the planet on Wednesday and ESA hasn’t been able to control it since then.

Launch Date of OnePlus Watch 2 in India
