Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking protection after alleging that eggs are being hurled at her during public appearances in West Bengal. According to her petition, such incidents have repeatedly taken place wherever she travels in her constituency, causing humiliation and disrupting her ability to perform her duties as an elected Member of Parliament. Through her lawyer, Moitra requested the court to direct the police to provide adequate security and prevent further attacks. During the hearing on Thursday, the Calcutta High Court said it would take up the matter on July 29. Moitra's counsel argued that despite an earlier court direction to prevent such incidents, the police had failed to take effective action. While an FIR has reportedly been registered, the petition claims that the lack of adequate police protection has allowed repeated acts of intimidation to continue.

The court heard submissions from the state authorities before adjourning the matter to the next hearing date. The plea comes after a series of political confrontations in Nadia district, where Moitra has alleged that BJP supporters targeted her with eggs and other objects during protests. BJP leaders have denied the allegations, and the matter has become part of the ongoing political tensions between the ruling TMC and the opposition in West Bengal. The High Court's upcoming hearing is expected to determine whether additional security measures or further directions to the police are required.
