H-1B obstacles and OPT hope: Indian students in the US struggle with evolving visa regulations
Students and professionals are eagerly awaiting President Donald Trump's next step as Indian residents' chances of finding employment abroad have drastically decreased due to the US's restrictive immigration laws. The new regulation has left many people, particularly those who are about to graduate, scurrying to reevaluate their plans and look for alternatives elsewhere in a country that accounts for the biggest number of H-1B visa holders worldwide.Chell Roberts, dean of the University of San Diego, described the announcement as "like a seismic shock." "Students, families, and businesses who have long seen the H-1B as a bridge to opportunity have had their dreams disrupted. "The recent increase in the H-1B cost and the planned changes to the lottery system have made it more difficult for Indian students studying in the United States to obtain a work visa. Notwithstanding these difficulties, the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program is still an essential means of obtaining job experience, even though new regulations may restrict chances in the future. Although some students think that concentrating on developing excellent academic and professional profiles is still the most effective approach, others are worried about employment prospects and career timetables.

According to MoE data, over 1 lakh single-teacher schools in India educate over 33 lakh children.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, there are over 33 lakh kids enrolled in over one lakh single-teacher schools nationwide, with Andhra Pradesh having the most of these institutions and Uttar Pradesh having the most students enrolled in them. 33,76,769 kids were enrolled in 1,04,125 single-teacher schools in India during the 2024–2025 school year, with an average of roughly 34 pupils per school.Despite efforts to rectify the situation, over 33 lakh Indian pupils are still enrolled in schools with just one teacher, and the roughly one lakh schools where they attend have not hired a teacher to replace their current one. For the academic year 2024–2025, the Union Ministry of Education released data from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) last week, showing that 1,04,125 schools in India are operated by a single teacher, serving 33,76,769 children. Andhra Pradesh has the most single-teacher schools, followed by Karnataka, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Lakshadweep. Nonetheless, Uttar Pradesh leads the pack in terms of student enrollment in single-teacher schools, followed by Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.Single-teacher schools are still a major problem in India, despite a decline in their numbers from 1,18,190 in 2022–2023 to 1,10,971 in 2023–2024. According to the ministry, "the number of single teacher schools has decreased by approximately 6% in the reporting year compared to the prior year due to the deliberate and significant governmental interventions." According to officials, in order to guarantee "optimal teacher availability," attempts are being made to redistribute teachers from schools with no students enrolled to single-teacher schools.

A new EPF death claim rule has been introduced by EPFO. Look this up
In a circular, the EPFO stated that following the passing of its members, its field offices were having trouble updating or correcting Aadhaar information.A new regulation has been implemented by the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to streamline the Employers Provident Fund (EPF) benefit claim procedure following a member's passing.Following the passing of its members, the EPFO said that its field offices were having trouble updating or correcting Aadhaar information. In order to provide simpler access to EPF benefits for the relatives of deceased members, the EPFO opted to handle claims in such circumstances without the seeding of Aadhar details. But making this concession requires getting the Officer in Charge's (OIC) permission through an e-office file. The comprehensive documentation of the verification methods conducted to verify the legality of the claimants and the deceased's membership is vital in the file. In a circular issued on May 17, 2024, EPFO stated that "this protocol is to be executed in conjunction with additional due diligence measures, as directed by the OIC, to mitigate the risk of fraudulent withdrawals."When member details are correct in the Universal Account Number (UAN) database but erroneous or lacking in the Unique Identification (UID) database, the necessity for Aadhaar details is relaxed.Field offices have been asked to adhere to certain parameters delineated in earlier circulars in instances where Aadhaar data is accurate, but disparities are present in the UAN.When Aadhaar data is accurate but partial or erroneous in the UAN, field offices need to carefully adhere to the instructions provided in JD SOP version-2, paragraphs 6.9 and 6.10, dated 26.03.2024. According to the guidelines provided in the previous circular, dated 24.09.2020, this include correcting the data in the UAN, seeding, and validating/authenticating the Aadhaar," stated the EPFO circular.According to the circular, the field offices encountered numerous difficulties when it came to the validation and seeding of Aadhaar in cases involving deceased individuals. inaccurate or lacking member information in Aadhaar databases. Absence of Aadhaar data for instances prior to its deployment. deactivated accounts for Aadhaar. Technical issues with using the UIDAI database to validate Aadhaar. Due to these problems, field officers have been unable to process claims, which has caused delays in the affected claimants' payments, as reported by the EPFO.

Question papers burned, checks postdated NTA disputes Bihars probe into the NEET paper leak.
The Bihar EOU's Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is looking into the matter in the state, has also stated that the information gathered was insufficient to validate a paper leak. "Throughly investigating the matter," officers declared. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police said it had taken "admit cards, post-dated cheques, and certificates" from "members of the organised gang arrested in this case" after taking over the investigation into claims of a question paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) earlier this month. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which administered the undergraduate medical entrance exam on May 5 in 557 domestic locations and 14 international cities, refuted claims that the exam question was leaked. The Bihar EOU's Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is looking into the matter in the state, has also stated that the information gathered was insufficient to validate a paper leak. "Throughly investigating the matter," officers declared.N H Khan, Additional Director General of Police, EOU, told The Indian Express that "the investigation shall now be conducted by the newly constituted SIT of the agency.""The SIT has seized post-dated checks that suggest that money was being paid by candidates to an organized gang," an EOU source stated. Even if we have confirmation that question papers were burned at an exam center, it is insufficient to conclude that there was a paper leak. Thus far in this case, thirteen people have been taken into custody. An EOU officer stated, "Of these, some are members of an organized gang, and others are candidates and their parents."According to the officer, the gang met up with a total of thirty-five applicants at Learn Boys Hostel and Learn Play School in the Khemnichak district of Patna prior to the exam. The source stated, "Some burned question paper remnants have been taken from the school in question, and this will be looked into." He also mentioned that one of the people detained, Nitish Kumar from Gaya, has already been detained in relation to a Bihar PSC TRE-3 paper leak case from Hazaribagh."In an isolated incident at Girls Higher Secondary Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Mantown, Sawai Madhopur (Rajasthan), Hindi-medium students were given English medium question paper by mistake and by the time the invigilator was correcting the mistake, students forcefully walked out of the exam hall with the question paper," a senior NTA official told The Indian Express, insisting there was no paper leak. Because of this, at approximately 4 p.m., the question paper was made available online; however, by then, the exam had already begun at all other testing locations nationwide. Therefore, there hasn't been a "leak" of the NEET UG exam.

School Holidays Delhi, Haryana Schools Start Their Winter Break Today
Delhi's schools will be closed for the winter starting today, January 1, 2024. The winter break will go through January 6. The state's schools will be closed from January 1 to January 15 for a total of 15 days. "The Haryana government has announced winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2024 in all government and private schools of the state," the Haryana Chief Minister's Office had stated, citing the growing cold. There will be no schooling during this time.Winter vacations are predicted to rise in many states because of the anticipated sharp decrease in temperature at the start of the year. There will be ample time for students to study for the exams, which are scheduled for February and March of 2024. Schools will reopen in the second week if the weather clears up. In the event that this doesn't occur, holidays will continue until January 14, 2024. In addition, numerous states will observe holidays in honor of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
