UPSC notifies 1,056 posts for Civil Services this year, drop in vacancies

UPSC CSE 2024 Announcement: Based on available data, the most number of positions under the current administration were announced in 2014. The quantity of posts has significantly decreased since then. The Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 application process was opened today by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The commission has announced 1,056 CSE and 150 IFoS openings overall this year.Compared to this year, the commission advertised 1,105 posts last year. The application form is available on the upsc.gov.in website, and candidates can submit their applications through March 5, 2024. On May 26, the UPSC CSE 2024 preliminary exam will take place.  The UPSC declared 1,011 openings in 2022 compared to 712 in 2021 796 in 2020. For example, in 2022, 11.35 million candidates applied for the civil service exam, but only 5.73 million candidates (50.51 percent) appeared for the exam. The UPSC CSE exam is conducted in three stages – Prelims, Mains and Personal Test. UPSC CSE Prelims consists of objective questions and will be held on 26th May. Candidates who have cleared the removal can register for the UPSC IAS Mains Exam. Each eligible candidate can take up to six attempts to crack the UPSC exam. However, candidates belonging to OBC and PwBD categories will be given nine attempts. The number of tests for candidates belonging to SC and ST categories has also been relaxed. UPSC CSE Main is descriptive and will be conducted from September 20 for five days. The CSE Mains exam is followed by an interview round where candidates are selected for various services and posts..
