Arc Search app uses AI to offer customised search results by browsing the internet
Arc Search aims to redefine the way we search for information on the internet by browsing the internet on your part and giving you customised search results on a newly generated webpage. The Browser Company, the makers of the Arc browser have announced a new app called Arc Search. The new iPhone-only app aims to redefine your browsing experience by generating a web page from scratch that offers customised search results. Arc Search’s ‘Browse for me’ feature lets you type in a query in the search bar and looks up information on the internet on your behalf. The company says the app uses AI to read several web pages and offers customised search results on a new webpage with different sections, which entirely depend on the search term. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Josh Miller, the CEO of The Browser Company said that launching the Arc Search app on your iPhone will make the keyboard pop up with the cursor automatically focusing on the search box. You can see in the video below that typing a search query in Arc Search and tapping on the ‘Browse for me’ button scours through at least six web pages and creates a new website that offers customised results. The Browser Company also says that navigating between open tabs on the Arc Search app is more efficient compared to other mobile browsers. Instead of showing small thumbnails like Chrome or Edge, Arc Search uses an iOS-like recent apps menu that stacks the older tabs behind the new one. For added privacy, Arc Search automatically cleans up your tab history and closes all tabs every night. The company also announced that it is ditching iCloud in favour of its own cross-platform syncing service, which will sync things like all your Spaces and Pinned tabs to Arc Search. The app is currently available for download on the App App Store, but the developers plan to drop the word ‘Search’ from its name in a month or two, meaning it will be called ‘Arc’ for iPhone.

Rahul Gandhis Post Following Uproar Over UGCs Draft Rules for the Education Panel
Congressman Rahul Gandhi declared that the party "will never let this happen" and accused the RSS-BJP of plotting to eliminate caste-based reservations in higher education. After the education panel's draft guidelines caused controversy, the Center and the University Grants Commission (UGC), which is in charge of overseeing educational institutions, made it clear that there isn't a plan of that kind. UGC के नए ड्राफ्ट में उच्च मिक्षा संस्थानों में SC, ST और OBC वर्ग को मिले आरक्षण को खित्म्म्ट्ट कॿंॾट्ट में कें्ं The Congress leader claimed that 3,000 of the 7,000 reserved positions in 45 central universities are unfilled in a post on X. "The RSS-BJP have already spoken about reviewing reservation, They now want to snatch the jobs of these (backward) sections in higher education institutions," he claimed. The move, the Congress MP, alleged is an attempt to murder the dreams of those struggling for social justice. "This is BJP's character and the difference between symbolic justice and real justice. The Congress will never let this happen. We will continue to fight for social justice and will ensure that eligible candidates fill up these vacant positions," Mr Gandhi added. The draft guidelines state that a "reserved vacancy may be filled as an unreserved vacancy after it has been declared unreserved by following the procedure of de-reservation."De-reservation of reserved positions in the event of direct recruitment is generally prohibited. The draft guidelines detailed the procedure for filling such a post and stated that, in rare and exceptional cases, the university in question may prepare a proposal for de-reservation of the vacancy, providing the following details: "The proposal will be required to list - efforts made to fill up the post; reasons why it cannot be allowed to remain vacant and justification for de-reservation." A major controversy was raised by the draft guidelines, which the main Opposition Congress strongly criticized. Congressman Jairam Ramesh had earlier claimed that there was a plot by the BJP to abolish reservations.Amid the outcry, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured that "not a single reserved post will be de-reserved". "There is no scope for ambiguity after the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Act, 2019," he told news agency PTI.

Govt halves equity infusion in OMCs to Rs 15K crore
NEW DELHI: Finance ministry has halved the amount of equity infusion in state-owned fuel retailers to Rs 15,000 crore to support their investments in energy transition projects, and also has deferred the plans to purchase crude oil worth Rs 5,000 crore to fill strategic underground storages. The ministry made this decision after considering the emerging trends in oil markets. “The plan for the purchase of crude oil worth Rs 5,000 crore for caverns at Mengaluru & Visakhapatnam has been recommended for deferral by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. This recommendation takes into account the emerging trends in oil markets,” stated the finance ministry. India, as the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer, relies on imports for over 80% of its oil requirements. In order to safeguard against supply disruptions, the country has established strategic storage facilities at three locations in southern India. These facilities have the capacity to store over 5 million tons of oil, providing a crucial buffer to ensure a stable and secure oil supply. In 2023, during the presentation of the national budget, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated Rs 30,000 crore for Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to support the energy transition plans. She also proposed Rs 5,000 crore for purchasing crude oil to fill strategic underground storages in Mangalore, Karnataka, and Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. These storages were established by the government as a precautionary measure against potential supply disruptions. While other state-owned oil companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and GAIL (India) Ltd have also outlined substantial investments to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, the equity support was specifically directed to the three fuel retailers. “Rs 30,000 crore capital support to OMCs (IOCL,BPCL, HPCL) for green energy and net zero initiatives: During Expenditure Finance Committee meeting held on November 30, 2023, it was decided maximum of Rs 15,000 crore could be provided for equity infusion into OMCs in FY 2023-24,” said the ministry.

Encourage India to continue to lead by example, work to bridge divides around the world: UN PGA Francis
Francis expressed concerns about the outdated structure of the Security Council, which he believes fails to reflect the current geopolitical realities."The Security Council of the UN as it currently exists harks back to a period in world history that no longer exists. Since then, the world has changed radically," remarked Francis, highlighting the council's inability to make crucial decisions for international peace and security, often due to geopolitical influences leading to the use of the veto."The fact of the matter is that the council has, in recent years, been progressively unable to take the decisions necessary in order to assist and support the strengthening of international peace and security. Largely for geopolitical reasons. The geopolitics, the global dynamics of the geopolitics, get imported into the council and that results invariably in the use of the veto by one or the other party," he added. On India's inclusion in the UNSC, the UNGA President said, "India is a mature, highly respected member of the United Nations. It is a leader in many ways. And I'm sure that that fact is not lost on the members of the General Assembly.""So I wish the government and people of India every success in their quest to assume membership of the council on a permanent basis. Whether that occurs or not will be a matter for the members to determine," he also saidIndia has long sought a permanent seat on the Security Council to better represent the interests of the developing world. The nation's quest has gained momentum with support from influential figures like Dennis Francis, who believes in India's capability to contribute positively to global peace and security.India has been a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for eight terms (16 years). India is a member of the G4, a group of nations that back each other to seek permanent membership in the UNSC. The countries advocate for reform in the UNSC. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his France visit in July 2023, made a strong pitch for India's permanent membership in the UN Security Council, saying the primary UN body cannot claim to be speaking for the world when its most populous country and the largest democracy is not a permanent member. Bharat Ratna award to Karpoori Thakur reflects Modi governments desperation, hypocrisy: Congress
The Congress on Wednesday welcomed the decision to confer Bharat Ratna to former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur and said it reflects the Narendra Modi government's desperation and hypocrisy. Thakur was a champion of social justice and conducting a nationwide caste census would be an appropriate tribute to him, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said."Even though it reflects the Modi Govt's desperation and hypocrisy, the Indian National Congress welcomes the posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna to the champion of social justice Jannayak Karpoori Thakurji," Ramesh said in a post on X. "'Bhagidari Nyay' is one of the five pillars of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. It will need a nation-wide caste census as a starting point."Rahul Gandhi has been consistently advocating this but the Modi Government has all along refused to release the results of the Socio Economic Caste Census 2011 and also refused to commit itself to conduct an updated nation-wide caste census which will be the most appropriate tribute to Jannayak Karpoori Thakurji," he said. Two-time Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur has been named for the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna posthumously, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said on Tuesday on the eve of the birth centenary of the fountainhead of OBC politics in Bihar.Thakur, who passed away in 1988, was the first non-Congress socialist leader who became chief minister twice -- first for seven months in December 1970 and later for two years in 1977."The President has been pleased to award Bharat Ratna to Shri Karpoori Thakur (posthumously)," the communique said. Thakur, known affectionately as 'Jan Nayak' (people's leader), is the 49th recipient of the country's highest civilian award. The award was last conferred on late president Pranab Mukherjee in 2019.Born on January 24, 1924 in Nai samaj (barber society), Thakur is credited in Bihar politics for enforcing total prohibition of alcohol in 1970. The village where he was born in Samistupur district was renamed after him as Karpuri Gram.

Ram Mandir News - RJD chief Lalu Yadav to skip Ram Mandir Pran Pratistha ceremony
Ahead of the pranpratishtha ceremony, Ayodhya Ram Temple Construction Committee Chairman, Nripendra Mishra says, “…a historic event…There is not only in India but all over who have faith, they feel that their rights have been recognised, their faith has been respected. So, from that sense of the term, there is jubilation. But at the same time, I would say and I believe what the PM said in 2019 when the judgement came – there should be no sense of victory or there should be no sense of defeat. We must all accept the judicial pronouncement. So, everyone is cautious that while you celebrate this day, don’t celebrate this day as something which is to show any other person of a different faith that he is less important to this country. This country belongs to everybody.” Priest Sunil Das in Ayodhya says, “This Ayodhya temple will be the centre for universal peace centre….” Priest Sunil Das conducted religious rituals in the ‘Garbha Griha’ of Ayodhya Ram Temple today. Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized the Congress and other opposition parties for staying away from the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. Thakur, accompanied by Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, participated in a cleanliness drive at the Valmiki temple premises. He warned that the opposition’s decision to boycott the ceremony might lead to people boycotting them, citing past instances when public support waned due to similar actions. The “pran pratishtha” ceremony is scheduled for January 22 as part of the BJP’s “Swachhata Sewa” programme. Former Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Wednesday, said that he will not be attending the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22.“I will not go to Ayodhya to attend the pran partishtha ceremony of the Ram temple,” he said.
