The Indian Express asked the EC for comment on Sen's claims, but the EC did not reply.The EC only deployed micro-observers in West Bengal, which was a first, despite announcing the SIR in nine states and three Union Territories on October 27 of last year. It noted that the order appointing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting exclusively of state police officers prejudices the petitioner-party and its leader, even though the high court has voiced dissatisfaction with the independence and actions of the state police.G.S. Mani, a Tamil Nadu BJP leader and vice president of the state legal cell, has submitted a petition to the Supreme Court requesting a CBI investigation into the stampede in Karur during a rally organized by actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on September 27, which resulted in 41 fatalities. However, there is a chance that the discussions might fail as significant differences remain unresolved and both sides are standing firm on their positions, it said.Sony terminated the merger with Zee due to certain unresolved "closing conditions" and leadership disputes, including disagreements over CEO Punit Goenka's involvement in regulatory issues. Zee is expected to notify Sony within the next 24-48 hours regarding its willingness to accept all terms and conditions and proceed with the merger, the newspaper said.If not, Sony is expected to withdraw its original merger application with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) by the end of this week, as agreed upon when the merger was initially proposed. The Zee-Sony merger, in the works for two years, would have created an Indian television juggernaut with more than 90 channels across sports, entertainment and news that would have competed with the likes of Walt Disney, and billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries.

Joy e-bike reaches electric two-wheeler sales milestone of 100,000 units
Joy e-bike, the electric two-wheeler brand of Gujarat-based Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility Ltd, has reached the cumulative sales milestone of 100,000 units. The company rolled out 100,000th unit, the Mihos, from its manufacturing facility in Vadodara.Wardwizard introduced its first low-speed electric scooter, the Butterfly, in 2018. At present, the company's product portfolio comprises of 10 models, including low-speed and high-speed variants. It has a network of over 750 touchpoints. Celebrating the sales milestone, Wardwizard has introduced several exclusive offers for customers, including discounts of up to Rs 30,000. The company is also offering free insurance on products like the Mihos, Wolf+ and Gen Next Nanu+.The offers will remain valid at all authorised Joy e-bike dealerships across India until March 31, 2024. Hyundai Creta reaches sales milestone of 1,000,000 units
The Hyundai Creta has reached the sales milestone of 1,000,000 units in India since its launch here in 2015. According to Hyundai Motor India, one Creta is sold every five minutes in the domestic market.Apart from being the largest-selling mid-size SUV in the domestic market, the Hyundai Creta has also recorded exports of 280,000 units from India. "The Hyundai Creta has been a brand that has captured the hearts of Indian customers and made India 'Live the SUV life'. With over 1 million Creta SUVs on Indian roads, the 'Creta' brand has reaffirmed its legacy of being the Undisputed SUV," said Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India."We are extremely grateful for the love and trust our customers have shown for Creta. So far as engine options are concerned, the Creta has three -- 1.5-litre MPi petrol (115PS and 144Nm), 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol (160PS and 253Nm) and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel (116PS and 250Nm). Kaynes Semicon To Invest INR 4,000 Crore On OSAT/ATMP
Kaynes Semicon, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, will invest INR 4,000 crore to set up a semiconductor OSAT/ATMP (assembly, testing, marking and packaging) facility in the next one to two years. Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar are the preferred locations for setting up the facility. "The investment will create around 1,000-plus jobs and in the next couple of months we are expecting the final approval from the government," said Raghu Panicker, CEO, Kaynes SemiCon. The semiconductor industry comprises companies that design, fabricate, assemble, test, and supply semiconductors that are suitable for various applications. At present, India employs around 20 per cent of the global chip design talent pool. "We have mastered the art of doing chip design in the last 30 years and we are a strong player second to none. The coming together of the government, academia and venture capitals helped in creating the ecosystem for semiconductor chip design and startups," he added. Additionally, Kaynes Technology would be investing around INR 200 crore in its research and development for OSAT projects. Top semiconductor manufacturers have their largest R&D centers in India leveraging the high quality of talent to develop chip designs and provide engineering support.India's automotive industry is growing and semiconductor applications in electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and in-car entertainment systems present significant opportunities, "We are working with customers for co-package optics (CPO) and we are addressing the power segment. Electric vehicles is one of the most prominent sectors and along with it we are also exploring opportunities in other industrial sectors such as sensor signal processing, high-end computing, among others," he explained. Sharing insights into why the backend of semiconductor manufacturing is gaining popularity, Panicker, said, "Backend of the semiconductor manufacturing is more people centric and less capital intensive than silicon fabrication. It is easier to get technology partners from south east Asia who are willing to work together."Kaynes Technology is also investing in a bare board printed circuit board plant with HDI (High-density Interconnect) technology; the company has already raised money for this investment. "We are actively looking at investment in silicon carbide fab, silicon fab and display fab. The silicon carbide fab will have close to 100 crore investment, the silicon fab will have an European tech partner and display fab will have a Japanese tech partner," according to sources aware of the matter. Former employees own 44 start-ups, eight backed by Binny Bansal
In the wee years of the millennium, two young former Amazon employees, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, quit their jobs and founded their own e-commerce company Flipkart. The company grew by leaps and bounds and almost two decades later, a good number of Bansals’ former employees followed their paths, to start their ventures. Popularly referred to as ‘Flipkart Mafia’, Flipsters (former Flipkart employees) now own 44 start-ups, based on the data by PrivateCircle Research. However, these are only the companies about which information is available publicly and the real number could be higher. Data from the analytics platform YNOS venture engine, on the other hand, shows that of these 44 companies, eight are backed by Binny. These companies cumulatively have a valuation of $25 billion. Six of them are unicorns, with PhonePe being the company with the highest valuation - $12 billion. The other unicorns are Groww ($3 billion), Udaan ($1.75 billion), Spinny ($1.55 billion), cult.fit ($1.3 billion) and Slice ($1.3 billion), in that order. PrivateCircle’s data shows that the formation of new start-ups by Flipsters has a co-relation with the company’s ESOP buybacks. In December 2017, Flipkart bought back ESOPs worth over $100 million from over 3,000 current and former employees. In May 2018, American multinational Walmart acquired a majority stake in Flipkart. That year, the company exercised another ESOP buyback worth $500 million. The year 2018 also marked the creation of six start-ups by former Flipkart employees, the highest until then. In 2019, the company, yet again, exercised an ESOP buyback worth $100 million. In that year, eight start-ups were created by former Flipkart employees, the highest to date. Amid the pandemic, seven flipster-backed start-ups were incorporated in 2020. Four start-ups each were created in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, too, the company exercised an ESOP buyback.

Onion export ban to continue till Mar 31 to keep prices under check: Govt
The ban on export of onion will continue till its previously announced deadline of March 31 as the government is keen to keep prices under check and ensure domestic availability, a top official said on Tuesday. On December 8, 2023, the government had banned export of onion till March 31. Ban on onion exports has not been lifted. It is in force and there is no change in the status," Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh told PTI. The government's supreme priority is to ensure enough domestic availability of onion at reasonable prices to consumers, he added. On reports of lifting of the export ban on the commodity, the modal wholesale onion prices shot up 40.62 per cent to Rs 1,800 per quintal on February 19 in Lasalgoan, the country's largest wholesale onion market, from Rs 1,280 per quintal on February 17. Ahead of general elections, the ban is unlikely to be lifted even after March 31 as rabi (winter) onion production is expected to be lower due to less coverage of area especially in Maharasthra, sources said. In the 2023 rabi season, onion production was estimated to be at 22.7 million tonnes. The Agriculture Ministry officials will assess the rabi onion coverage in key growing states of Maharsthra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in the coming days. Meanwhile, the export of onion to friendly countries is allowed on a case-to-case basis after approval from the inter-ministerial group.

Day after rejecting proposal, farmers ask Centre to accept their demands
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Tuesday sought that the Centre accept their demands, including a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm loan waiver, and said they will head to Delhi on Wednesday. On Monday evening, SKM (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal had said, "After holding discussions on two of our forums, it has been decided that the Centre's proposal is not in the interest of farmers and we reject it. Asked if their call for a march to Delhi still stands, Pandher had said, "We will move to Delhi peacefully at 11 am on February 21.The protesting farmers have been staying put at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana, after their "Delhi Chalo" march to press the BJP-led Centre for various demands, including a legal guarantee on the MSP for crops, was stopped by security forces. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are spearheading the "Delhi Chalo" march. Talking to reporters at the Shambhu border point between Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday, Pandher, who represents the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, said the farmers have three big demands -- a legal guarantee on the MSP for all crops, the implementation of the "C2 plus 50 per cent" formula as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission and loan waiver. Replying to a question, Pandher said at the meeting with the Union ministers, the farmers proposed that a law on the MSP be enacted by convening a special session of Parliament. On the issue of loan waiver, he said according to government reports, farmers have a total debt to the tune of Rs 18.5 trillion.

Numaligarh Refinery planning for IPO in next two years, says MD
Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is looking at an initial public offer (IPO) in the next two years, primarily to support net-zero emission plans of the company, its Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan told Moneycontrol.Phukan said NRL has several projects planned to achieve net-zero targets by 2038 and setting a 2G bio-refinery is one among them. NRL, a subsidiary of state-run Oil India Limited (OIL), is setting up India’s first bio-refinery which would use bamboo as feedstock in Assam. Zaggle Prepaid scales record high after agreement with EaseMyTrip
Shares of Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services surged 18 percent to Rs 299, hitting an all-time high, after the company announced it has entered into an agreement with EasyMyTrip Planners Limited for three years. The company clocked its highest quarterly revenue to date at Rs 199.51 crore, driven by revenue contribution from Zoyer–its software platform.
