On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Madras High Court allowed the production company of the Vijay-starring film Jana Nayagan to withdraw a writ petition it had filed on January 6, 2026, asking the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to order the film to receive a U/A 16+ certificate within 24 hours. After Vijayan Subramanian, the attorney for KVN Productions LLP, sent a letter to the High Court Registry indicating that the production company had chosen to accept the CBFC chairman's referral to the nine-member revising committee, Justice P.T. Asha dismissed the writ suit as withdrawn. The legal obstacles preventing the CBFC from returning the film to the revision committee for a new assessment of whether it should receive a U (universal), U/A (under adult guidance), or A (adults only) certification have been removed by the court's approval to drop the petition.

Due to legal issues, the film's January 9 release date was postponed by more than a month. On December 18, 2025, the producer submitted the film for certification through the tatkal method, and on December 19, 2025, a five-member examining committee viewed the film. On December 22, 2025, the producer was notified that, if specific excisions were made, the examining committee had suggested a U/A 16+ certification. On December 24, 2025, the production company submitted the edited film to the CBFC after accepting the recommendation and making all the recommended excisions.Despite the film's numerous allusions to the military, one of the examining committee members complained to the chairman of the CBFC in Mumbai about the lack of an authority on Army-related matters. Therefore, on December 29, 2025, the chairman of the CBFC paused the proceedings.
