Following a humiliating loss in a match that never lived up to its blockbuster billing, India captain Suryakumar Yadav dedicated Sunday's (February 16, 2026) Twenty20 World Cup triumph over Pakistan to supporters nationwide, while his opposite number, Salman Agha, encouraged perspective.As India amassed 175-7 and then went back to bundle out Pakistan for 114 in 18 overs, the much-anticipated showdown between the South Asian neighbors, who engaged in a military crisis that almost erupted into a full-fledged war last year, failed to ignite.Despite the tensions, the game itself went without any flashpoints, but the opposing captains did not shake hands during the toss. When the coin was flipped, Salman and Suryakumar avoided eye contact and appeared solemn.

When the India captain addressed at the R. Premadasa Stadium following the game, the atmosphere was very different."This is for the Indian market. With a broad smile, the batter remarked, "We played the same brand of cricket that we wanted to play."Ishan Kishan was praised by Suryakumar for his quick 77, which helped them win.Ishan Kishan batted in the same manner as he did on the domestic circuit and in our prior games.
