Why India can't trust the Trump White House despite the proposed trade deal

A deal that the US president himself brokered is in direct opposition to US tariffs against Canada and Mexico. The WTO has lost its course, according to the US 2025 Trade Policy. With regard to commerce with the US, India cannot relax, BTA or not.In a move that could have a big impact on developing nations like India, which generally provide more protection to domestic industry than the wealthier, developed world, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that reciprocal tariffs would be applied to trade partners regardless of their economic development. Trump's comments during a speech to the US Congress' Joint Session hinted that New Delhi might not receive any concessions on broad duties in trade negotiations. He specifically mentioned the automobile industry, claiming that India imposes tariffs of more than 100%.It's time for us to start utilizing tariffs against the nations that have been using them against us for decades. Generally speaking, are you familiar with the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada? Additionally, we pay tariffs that are far greater than those of innumerable other countries," Trump stated.

India have been firing on all cylinders since the tournament started defeating all comers with Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer in top form while Varun Chakravarthy showed what he was capable of in just one match when he took 5 wickets vs New Zealand in the last Group A match. India 'will do what's right' on illegal immigration, according to Trump

India 'will do what's right' on illegal immigration, according to Trump

After speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone, US President Donald Trump declared that India "will do what's right" when it comes to the expulsion of illegal migrants. The leaders' first meeting since Trump's inauguration last week took place on Monday. They had what the White House called a "productive call" where they talked about trade, immigration, and security problems.Following the chat, Trump informed reporters that Modi would probably come to the US "sometime in February".Trump has issued several executive orders pertaining to immigration since taking office on January 20, opening the door for a broad campaign to target unauthorized immigrants in the US. The Pew Research Center estimates that as of 2024, there would be 725,000 undocumented Indian immigrants in the United States. India's foreign ministry stated last week that Delhi would accept Indians who were overstaying "anywhere in the world" provided their nationality was confirmed and their documents were submitted.According to the ministry, Trump and Modi talked about the bilateral relationship "including in the areas of technology, trade, investment, energy, and defense" during their phone conversation on Monday. The two presidents also talked about European, Middle Eastern, and Indo-Pacific security. Trump emphasized the significance of India expanding its purchases of US-made security equipment and pursuing a "fair" bilateral commercial relationship, according to a White House statement. Modi referred to Trump as a "dear friend" and stated that they were "committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership" in a post on X (previously Twitter). According to the White House, both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the Indo-Pacific Quad alliance, which also includes Australia and Japan, as well as their nations' strategic partnership. Later this year, India will host the Quad leaders for the first time. Between 2017 until 2021, when the US president was in his first term, Modi and Trump had friendly relations. However, the Trump administration and India were engaged in a sour tariff war that had an impact on companies on both sides. India's foreign minister, S Jaishankar, stated in November after Trump's election victory that the nation was not anxious about collaborating with the US president.Last year, Trump referred to Modi as a "great leader" but also charged that India was imposing exorbitant tariffs. It would be intriguing to see if the two countries' camaraderie can allay worries about immigration and commerce, according to analysts.

Netanyahu claims a deal has been reached to free hostages held by Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced on Friday that Hamas is scheduled to free the first hostages under a ceasefire agreement in Gaza on Sunday. According to local authorities, the truce, if it is successful, would put an end to the conflict that has destroyed a large portion of heavily urbanized Gaza, killed over 46,000 people, and repeatedly displaced the majority of the tiny enclave's pre-war population of 2.3 million.Following worries that the agreement would be postponed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced Friday that the Israeli cabinet will convene to finalize the agreement with militant group Hamas for a truce in Gaza and the release of hostages. Israeli airplanes continued their heavy bombardment in Gaza, and the Civil Emergency Service said on Friday that since the agreement was made, at least 101 Palestinians had been murdered, including 58 women and children. Israel blamed Hamas for the delay in holding meetings on Thursday when the cabinet was supposed to vote on the pact, citing long-standing disagreements among ministers.

Medalists at the Paralympics earn hundreds of thousands of dollars less than those at the Olympics.

Many of us will be looking for a healthy bonus to assist us start the new year as 2024 comes to an end. The same is true for elite athletes. In recognition of their athletic accomplishments, numerous gold medalists from this year's Olympics in Paris will be receiving enormous bonuses and presents. But according to a CNN Sport study, many of their Paralympic counterparts are receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars less in compensation.Numerous nations have distinct National Olympic and Paralympic committees (NOCs and NPCs, respectively) and governing organizations that run their individual sports in ways that differ from those of other nations. For instance, Australia has two organizations—the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia—while the United States has just one, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). In a similar vein, World Athletics and World Para Athletics are separate organizations that oversee track and field for the physically fit and paralyzed, respectively. As he and Elena Congost near the finish line of the women's T12 marathon, Mia Carol falters.Numerous NOCs and NPCs get funding from both public and private sources, including sponsorship and rights like Spain's. Some, like China or Great Britain, get most of their funding from the government in addition to other sources (such a national lottery). Others, like the USOPC, are nonprofit organizations that rely on private investment and the kindness of the nation's citizens (e.g. the USOPC's direct fan donation scheme) and do not receive any government money. When possible, CNN obtained information from credible local reporting and contacted Olympic and Paralympic officials from each of the countries participating at this year's Games in Paris. Some countries, such as Great Britain, forbid or do not let competitors to receive awards. Only 23 countries including Taiwan gave their Paralympic champions bonuses this big, while at least 42 nations gave gold medalists over $100,000 following the Paris Olympics. Sarah Storey, Great Britain's most successful Paralympic athlete, told CNN Sport, "Looking across the world, it is very disappointing that nations place such a varying importance on the funding of their athletes and that the profile and opportunity for para-athletes is often overlooked."

Manmohan Singh's passing was used by Rahul Gandhi for his own political gain: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a vicious attack on the Congress on Monday, December 30, 2024, accusing Rahul Gandhi of flying to Vietnam to ring in the New Year while the nation was still grieving the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and of "exploiting" his death for his "expedient politics." In response, the Congress questioned when the "Sanghis will stop this 'take diversion' politics.""It is regrettable that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have participated in such dishonest politics. Rahul Gandhi tweeted an hour ago that the BJP was disrespecting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by holding his funeral services at Nigam Bodh Ghat.
