Review of the science-fiction action picture Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez: It is visually disorienting, has little ambition, and has no true redeeming qualities.There are terrible films, and then there are terrible Netflix-produced films. The streamer's most recent high-profile production, Atlas, is evidently determined to keep getting bigger and bigger, but it somehow falls short of the dismal caliber of its two previous big failures from earlier this year, which were the space opera Rebel Moon — Part 2: The Scargiver and the fantasy survival thriller Damsel. Atlas, a future action movie starring Jennifer Lopez as a soldier with trust issues, is dull, absurd, and sadly unsalvageable.Brad Peyton, the director of Atlas, looks to have washed ashore on the shores of streaming, seeking quick sanctuary from the Hollywood studio system he once served. Peyton served a time at the Dwayne Johnson penitentiary for stand-ins. The end product is an overly dramatic and poorly written muddle that lacks both the self-aware absurdity and technical skill of Peyton's earlier films, of which he is still most known for Rampage and San Andreas. In the story, Atlas, a brilliant but unruly person when it comes to chess, is dispatched to a far-off planet on a mission that practically amounts to a bounty hunt, with the goal of bringing Harlan back alive. Following the ship's crash-landing and the death or capture of her entire platoon,She performs her best Sigourney Weaver impression, gets into a mech suit straight out of Alien 2, and for a significant portion of the ostensibly action-packed story, she stays motionless. As the film nears its conclusion, Peyton and his screenwriters, Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, make the strange decision to bind Atlas to a table. Atlas is understandably motionless while she's wearing the bulky outfit. Therefore, there is a significant portion in which Lopez is required to provide a convincingly dramatic performance while lying motionless on a flat surface and rambling on about Atlas' past. It would be like asking Virat Kohli to hit sixes while holding one arm behind his back in a film.However, you shouldn't take this kind of film seriously. It's the kind of movie where individuals rush for cover and utter stuff like, "He's targeting my fusion reactor," and "My turn," after enduring a hail of gunshots. In relation to that, Lopez spends a good deal of the film alone herself, forced to perform either by herself or through the disembodied voice of an AI assistant that Atlas eventually compels her to rely on. These are some of the most boring scenes in the movie, with the writing going completely bonkers in its naive attempts to have the two protagonists engage in buddy-movie banter.Lopez most likely never left the studio. She doesn't even seem to have perspired. The underpaid and overworked visual effects artists are the only crew members who might have needed electrolytes and caffeine, and they will all be unfairly held accountable for their involvement in what is unquestionably the most unattractive film of the year thus far. It would be correct to describe Atlas as an eyesore, but that would also, regrettably, suggest a misty-eyed nostalgia for the era of Red Notice and The Gray Man.

A government agency in India invested millions in endorsing BJP election slogans.

The goal of the Central Bureau of Communication is to advance governmental initiatives. Rather than using catchphrases from Modi's party, the agency became the largest Google ad spender prior to the election.As the Indian election campaign got underway in November, a slogan created by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, began to acquire popularity.The governing party presented "Modi ki guarantee" (also known as "Modi's guarantee") as the widely popular prime minister's personal pledge to Indian voters in an effort to set itself apart from the opposition parties' obviously disorganized coalition. Using that phrase, the BJP started running Google ads in the third week of November.However, at the same time, a another organization began investing millions of rupees in a campaign that had a nearly identical name: "Modi sarkar ki guarantee" (the guarantee of the Modi government). Throughout the campaign's months-long run of videos, "Modi's guarantee" was frequently mentioned.In one such commercial, which aired on February 23, an actor who plays a young businessman tells a worried father, "Papa, there's Modi's guarantee," as a way to reassure him about his son's career decision. Modi ji has pledged to elevate India to the top among nations with the highest number of unicorn businesses. He states at the end with confidence that "every startup will start in India thanks to Modi's guarantee."These were the only ads that weren't from the BJP. They were a part of a campaign run by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), the advertising agency for the Indian government, and were funded by Indian taxpayers. At least one additional campaign mimicked the style and phrasing of the BJP's election slogans, releasing a number of advertisements in March. The biggest opposition party in the nation, the Indian National Congress, complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the constitutional body in charge of conducting the elections, on March 22. The complaint stated that these CBC commercials breached election regulations by misappropriating public funds for the governing party's campaign. The amount of money the CBC spent on government ads that seem to match the BJP's campaign themes has now been made public by an Al Jazeera investigation. Critics claim these ads cast doubt on the ability of non-partisan organizations to maintain impartiality during the election. From November, when it began running regular ads on the internet platform, until March 15, the government's communication agency spent around 387 million rupees ($4.65 million) on Google AdWords.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is now scrutinizing other sponsors and advertisers of dishonest food and health product ad campaigns, after Patanjali.Advertisers shall submit self-declaration forms certifying their compliance with cable TV laws and advertising standards prior to airing adverts, according to a bench made up of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice A. Amanullah that declared this on Tuesday. It stated that before the advertisements air, these statements had to be filed to the Broadcast Seva webpage.Additionally, it forewarned that promoters of false goods and services, such as celebrities and influencers, would be held equally accountable.The consumer affairs ministry was ordered by the court to set up a system that would allow advertisers to submit self-declarations for print media ads in four weeks.The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) took action against deceptive or fraudulent advertisements, especially those that pertain to food and health, and the court requested that the ministry provide a new affidavit detailing these steps. In a contempt action against co-founders of Patanjali Ayurved, yoga master Ramdev and managing director Balkrishna, for publishing deceptive ads in violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Objectionable Advertisements Act, the Supreme Court postponed its decision on Tuesday, according to Bar and Bench.Additionally, a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah overruled a previous ruling requiring Ramdev and Balkrishna to be in person for the proceedings.After Ramdev and Balkrishna's attorneys promised the court they would provide a detailed account of every action done by Patanjali Ayurved to cease releasing deceptive advertisements, the order was revoked.The affidavit will be filed in three weeks, the court was informed, and it will include a detailed account of the actions the corporation took to recall the items for which its licenses have been stopped.The Indian Medical Association filed a suit against Patanjali Ayurved Limited, alleging that the firm was engaged in a "smear campaign" against modern medicine and the Covid-19 vaccination campaign. The bench was deliberating over this appeal.Senior Advocate Balbir Singh informed the bench during the hearing that the company has written to a number of platforms that were still running its adverts on behalf of Ramdev and Balkrishna. In addition, he declared that the selling of goods that were prohibited had stopped.
