According to preliminary estimates by trade tracking website Sacnilk, the movie made over Rs 43 crore from paid previews on Wednesday—the largest amount ever for an Indian film—and Rs 102.55 crore on its opening day on Thursday, bringing its total earnings in India to almost Rs 145 crore.The film has already topped the opening day receipts of recent Hindi blockbusters, including Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan" (Rs 75 crore) and "Pathaan" (Rs 57 crore), as well as the horror-comedy "Stree 2" (Rs 54 crore). The makers are anticipated to update the official figures later in the day. He has argued that he acted professionally toward the de facto complaint and that she was the one who initiated a "campaign" to damage his reputation. Additionally, he claims that the complainant accused him of sexual assault and uploaded a clip on her Instagram account. Additionally, he claimed that in December 2025, an interim order prohibiting her from posting defamatory news on any media platform was issued after he filed a damage suit against her at the Bombay High Court. He claims that she fabricated the current case in order to avoid the legal repercussions of releasing derogatory material about him. Chidamabaram emphasized that he had no criminal history and that the case was not reported for four years. There is no need for custodial interrogation and no materials are gathered because the de facto complaint is overseas.

The Court made the observation during the hearing of three petitions from people who wanted to prevent the film's release and have the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) certificate revoked because they believed the movie stigmatized and misrepresented Kerala, which could cause tensions and discord among communities. The Court noted that the petitioners' concerns seemed prima facie justified because the movie was being projected as "inspired by true events" and prominently carried the name of the state in its title, even though the sequels' plot had no real connection to Kerala. The Court then expressed its inclination to watch the film during the morning hearing. Therefore, it requested that the producer and the CBFC's legal representatives obtain guidance regarding the best time to screen the film for the Court. Additionally, the movie producers' attorney stated that the screening may go.

The movie is based on the Emergency imposed in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Government sources have told NDTV "there is some sensitive content" and that "religious sentiments cannot be hurt".Taking into account the film ratings body's objections, the court last week ordered the CBFC to make a final decision, saying that "it is not for CBFC to decide whether this affects public order". One of the two judges on the division bench hearing this case, Justice BP Colabwalla, noted that Ms. Ranaut's creation was not a documentary and questioned whether the general public was so gullible as to believe anything they saw in a film. How about artistic freedom? "The CBFC "cannot sit on the fence," the court further declared. Make a choice.
