Speaking at the Tiger Pataudi Memorial Lecture 2026 in Kolkata, Saif Ali Khan discussed his father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and said that he had a unique way of communicating. Saif recalled his relationship with his father, saying, "I knew him respectfully as Abba, a man of very few words who somehow said everything to us as a family that mattered." He was always there for us and never raised his voice. At a very young age, he instilled in us the value of respecting others.Saif also highlighted how his father's reserved demeanor in social settings frequently came to light at get-togethers. He hardly ever talked about his accomplishments at home. He hardly ever talked about anything.

At dinners and get-togethers, when individuals with less experience than him would share their thoughts, my mother would become irritated. "No one asked me," he would claim, but since no one had asked him, he would remain silent. He said, "It was a very different kind of confidence.""My father lost his eye just as he was maturing... I don't want to go on because I can go on about many aspects of his cricket, but he lost his eye when he was on the cusp of achieving something really, really great," stated Saif Ali Khan. It is both one of the greatest comebacks and one of the biggest catastrophes in sports history. The actor continued by saying that his father initially believed it was a "shoulder accident" and was unaware that he had lost an eye."You have this piece of glass in your eye, the physicians remarked after the procedure. 99% of your vision will be lost. They formerly claimed that using contact lenses would restore 90% of your vision, but the adjustment process would take a long time. After returning from college, he was in Delhi when he received a summons to play against a visiting English team, Saif Ali Khan revealed.
