Women leaders on vulnerability, strength, and structural changes in "Authentic Ascent"

An interesting panel discussion on the topic of "The Authentic Ascent: Leading with Vulnerability and Strength" took place at the 6th edition of the Women Disruptors Summit & Awards 2025. Industry pioneers gathered to talk about systemic changes that enable women in leadership positions in addition to their own personal journeys.Pritha Mitra Dasgupta, Chief Marketing Officer of Havas India, presided over the meeting, and panelists included: Kinnari Dave, Shemaroo Entertainment's Business Head for ShemarooMe Prachi Bali, Head of Saatchi Propagate and EVP Shwetal Basu, Polycab India's Senior Vice President and Head of Brand & Marketing"We are no longer applauding leaders who never flinch," said Pritha Mitra Dasgupta, who opened the conversation by saying .that the days of leaders who stood like rock without flinching were long gone. In actuality, we are admiring those who possess the capacity for tenderness, resilience, empathy, and ambition. She continued by asking Kinneri Dave how both astute strategy and flexibility are necessary to successfully navigate a legacy business through the digital maelstrom. "Could you describe a situation where you were able to bring things back on track when they were veering off course because of your transparency rather than just your strategic abilities?""When you take over a brand, a legacy brand as large as Shemaroo, the burden of the brand and the legacy is huge, and you're always on edge, making sure you're not denting it," Kinnari Dave said, citing a server crash as an example that demonstrated the leadership transfers. I can clearly recall that five years ago, I oversaw product and technology for another company before taking the helm at Shemaroo.I remember clearly the day one of our servers broke and we lost a lot of data because it's a legacy brand and we had a major tech move. At that period, leading product technology for a heritage company felt extremely risky because of the media and people' doubts about a legacy brand going digital in comparison to Netflix. We told stakeholders, "Yeah, we've had a crash, lost data, and need time to figure this out," rather than jumping into solution mode, I said. However, we'll make sure that things return to normal. I then said to the crew, "All right, so this is where we are." Let's focus on finding a solution and separating the problem from the who. That made things more relatable and encouraged cooperation. Because we came together and worked as a single, cohesive team, I believe that's where we found the solution and recovered more quickly than anticipated.

In a new covert Santa commercial, IGP adds a gangster touch to office gifts.

IGP debuted a brand-new Christmas advertising campaign. The office Secret Santa in the advertisement has a gangster vibe. It draws attention to likable characters at work. IGP provides a variety of practical presents. The ad highlights growing tendencies in office gifts. The goal of IGP is to simplify corporate gifting. With the debut of its second ad video under the 'Amazing Gifts, Samay Par' campaign, International Gifts Platform, or IGP, has added a humorous and inventive twist by putting a birthday celebration in the Stone Age. This most recent episode satirically reimagines the classic problem of selecting the ideal birthday present, demonstrating that gift selection was important even in prehistoric times. The campaign's main concept is that a well-considered present given at the appropriate moment can have a lasting effect. The advertisement transports us to the Stone Age, when even prehistoric people understood that a birthday celebration wouldn't be complete without the ideal cake. A young cave lad surprises his crush with a delectable cake and blooming flowers from IGP in a world where stone tools are cutting edge and fire is considered a luxury. Every cave-dweller at the gathering is won over by the cake, which becomes the talk of the tribe. The message is clear: a thoughtful, well-timed present can make a lasting impact in any era, whether you are looking for dinner or running contemporary errands!

Did artificial intelligence sap Coca-Cola's Christmas cheer?

Did artificial intelligence sap Coca-Cola's Christmas cheer?

Social media users reacted negatively to Coca-Cola's recent AI-generated Christmas advertisements. Many contend that the intended Christmas spirit was overshadowed by the campaign's lack of emotional connection and appropriate execution. Although the advertising' technology was impressive, the narrative fell short of the success of Coca-Cola's seminal 1995 commercial. We sought the opinions of prominent figures in Indian advertising.Social media users made fun of Coca-Cola's AI-generated Christmas advertisements when they were published last month. Some users felt that the magic had been lost in the advertisements, which were meant to honor the brand's famous Coca-Cola Christmas commercials from 1995, "Holidays Are Coming." Experts in the field offer their opinions on whether the recent internet backlash against the cola giant's advertisements is the result of bad execution or AI failure. The CCO of DDB Mudra Group, Rahul Mathew "I believe that a campaign's ambition is what makes it successful. You won't be content until you achieve your goal of being the most talked-about campaign. On the other hand, you will be content that you are out there if your goal is simply to be there. I believe the goal of the Coca-Cola commercial was just to be an AI execution. And rather than being a tale that appeals to everyone's Christmas spirit, that has turned into the commercial's narrative."Animation, CG, AI, and live action are all methods of execution. The customer does.

The Chief Justice withdraws from legal arguments on the employment of poll workers.

Sanjiv Khanna, the Chief Justice of India, resigned on Tuesday from hearing arguments against the legality of the statute that removed him from the committee responsible for selecting the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners. The Chief Justice, who shared the bench with Justice Sanjay Kumar, informed the petitioners' attorneys that he was unable to hear their plea. "List the matter before a bench of which I am not a part of," he stated. He said that the matter will be heard after the winter break and would be reallocated to a separate bench, excluding the Chief Justice. During that time, the Chief Justice also instructed the Center and other parties to submit answers to the petition. In their representation of the petitioners, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan and attorney Prashant Bhushan stated that the previous bench, which was led by Justice Khanna, who had not yet been promoted to the position of Chief Justice, had issued interim orders in the case back in March. Notably, the Chief Justice of India was not allowed to serve on the committee that appointed the chief election commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners as a result of the Election Commissioners' Act, which was approved in December 2023. The Prime Minister, a Cabinet Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition currently make up the appointment panel.A number of individuals, notably the Association for Democratic Reforms and Congressman Jaya Thakur, contested the legality of Section 7 of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Act, 2023, and requested a halt to its implementation. A different Supreme Court bench, consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, had earlier in March declined to halt the new law's implementation of the appointment of new Election Commissioners (ECs).

Election Commission ruling by the Supreme Court: When judicial activism shapes the law

Election Commission ruling by the Supreme Court: When judicial activism shapes the law

By adopting the Constituent Assembly's mantle in its March 2, 2023, ruling, the Supreme Court of India essentially rewrote some of the Constitution's clauses. The Court mandated that revised guidelines for the Election Commissioner's appointment be adhered to.According to these regulations, a committee made up of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India must advise the appointment of the Election Commissioner. The Court defended this by saying that these regulations are necessary to address the "lacuna" in the laws governing this topic. However, it is clear that the Court has acted in flagrant contempt of the doctrine of the separation of powers if we examine the Court's reasoning and the laws pertaining to the appointment of Election Commissioners in greater detail. The Constitution itself, which aimed to create three institutional organs—the legislature, executive branch, and judiciary—is the source of the theory of separation of powers. The Constitution also outlined the roles of these three branches, with the legislature enacting laws, the executive branch enforcing them, and the judiciary rendering decisions. But the same Court that once acknowledged this theory as a component of the Constitution's "basic structure" has now reversed it.

Amitesh Jha of Flipkart is appointed CEO of Swiggy Instamart.

With effect from September 4, 2024, Swiggy has named Amitesh Jha as the new CEO of Swiggy Instamart. Jha offers more than 20 years of expertise to the position, having previously worked with Flipkart. The on-demand meal delivery service Swiggy announced in a press release today, August 29, that Amitesh Jha has been named CEO of Swiggy Instamart. On September 4, 2024, Jha will take over as CEO of the fast commerce company. As competition intensifies in the rapid commerce space, Swiggy has made a move into larger e-commerce categories by appointing Flipkart veteran Amitesh Jha as the new CEO of Instamart.Amitesh Jha, a Flipkart veteran, was named CEO of Swiggy Instamart by IPO-bound Swiggy at a time when rapid commerce competitors are preparing for a fierce competition with e-commerce behemoths. The hiring of Jha reflects the desire of rapid commerce companies to expand beyond grocery by entering e-commerce markets that have historically been robust, such electronics, fashion, and clothing. According to his LinkedIn page, Jha, who has 14 years of experience at Flipkart, was most recently the Senior Vice President of Category and Marketplace, where he oversaw high-growth companies that accounted for 70% of transactions on the Walmart-owned e-commerce platform.Swiggy Group CEO Sriharsha Majety highlighted Jha's "extensive experience in leading core categories such as smartphones, general merchandise, fashion, and large appliances, as well as managing their logistics arm" when he explained why the former Flipkart executive was chosen to lead Instamart. Protecting Swiggy Instamart's market share, which UBS thinks is currently between 20 and 25 percent, compared to Bernstein's projections of 35 to 39 percent in 2023, is one of Jha's biggest problems. In addition to market leader Blinkit's steady rise, BigBasket's complete focus on speedy commerce and Zepto's charge, which is being supported by $1 billion in new funding, are the main causes of the assault.

Day 10 of Pushpa 2 (Hindi) Trends in the Box Office: The biggest second Saturday in Hindi cinema history is achieved by the Allu Arjun film.

Pushpa 2: The Rule (Hindi), starring Allu Arjun, is an unstoppable force at the box office, setting yet another record on the second Saturday. Early trends indicate that the Sukumar-directed film hopes to earn between Rs 41.00 crore and Rs 43.00 crore on the tenth day, bringing its total earnings to Rs 458 crore. With a gross of Rs 33.00 crore, the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starring Stree 2 was the most grossing second Saturday in Hindi cinema history. The movement and momentum in the evening and night shows will determine if Pushpa 2 will even approach the Rs 45 crore milestone on the tenth day. If it succeeds, Pushpa 2's second Saturday will gross more than Stree 2's second Sunday (Rs 42 crore), which says a lot about the movie's dominance at the box office. Pushpa 2's second weekend could bring in close to Rs 115 crore, which would once again be the largest amount ever made. After surpassing the box office receipts of Animal, Bahubali 2, Pathaan, and Gadar 2 in just 13 days, the Allu Arjun flick is expected to surpass the Rs 500 crore mark on Sunday and rank as the third-biggest Hindi feature film ever by Tuesday. In order to become the most successful Hindi film ever and the first to ever reach the Rs 600 crore milestone, the movie will then be vying for the box office receipts of Jawan and Stree 2.

The Union Budget 2024 may see the government loosen the 45-day payment restriction for MSMEs.

The Union Budget 2024 may see the government loosen the 45-day payment restriction for MSMEs.

According to insiders, the government may decide to loosen the rule requiring MSMEs to be paid for goods and services within 45 days of the purchase in order to deter big corporations from exploring alternative sources of funding This could be announced in the budget, which is expected to be delivered on July 23.Overview. The government is thinking about easing the 45-day payment deadline for MSMEs in an effort to keep big businesses from looking for alternative suppliers. It is possible that this modification to Section 43B(h) of the Income Tax Act would be disclosed in the forthcoming July 23 Budget. As per the Finance Act 2023's introduction of Section 43B(h) of the Income Tax Act, a larger company may face greater taxes if it fails to pay an MSME within the stipulated timeframe of 45 days for written agreements. This is because the firm cannot deduct the payment from its taxable income. The amendment was introduced to allow MSMEs to receive payments on time, but many of them expressed fear, according to sources. They said they were afraid that large corporations might ask their vendors to give up their MSME registration in order to do business with them, or they might shift their sourcing requirements to larger firms in an effort to protect their interests.

Why it's never a good idea to do a DIY chemical peel

People all over the world are enamored with the idea of having flawlessly clear skin, whether they have glazed or glass skin. They are using expert treatments, such as wine baths and salmon sperm facials, in addition to skincare and makeup to reach their goals. In recent years, chemical peels have been increasingly popular among these. However, as members of the social media generation, it appears like there is a do-it-yourself solution for practically anything. By combining various acids, many people have even begun trying chemical peels at home.Even while your nani-dadi ke nuskhe were safe enough to try at home, trying a chemical peel is a very different matter and might cause significant skin damage. But first, comprehend...According to Dr. Ruben Bhasin Passi, dermatology consultant at CK Birla Hospital in Gurugram, "Chemical peels are skin treatments that use acid-based solutions to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin," India Today reports. According to her, these treatments function by encouraging cell turnover, breaking down dead skin cells, and boosting the creation of collagen.Peels can treat problems like acne, hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles, and uneven texture, depending on their strength (light, medium, or deep). "While deeper peels like trichloroacetic acid penetrate deeper for more dramatic results, light peels like alpha-hydroxy acids target the epidermis," Dr. Passi continues.Additionally, according to Dr. Shifa Yadav, dermatology and cosmetology consultant at Artemis Hospitals in Gurugram, this procedure aids in the skin's regeneration of new, healthier cells, giving it a smoother, more even complexion. It is frequently used in skin care clinics to improve the appearance and feel of skin, but in order to prevent irritation or injury, it must be applied and maintained properly.Even though experimenting with at-home hacks can be enjoyable, practical, and even economical, it's crucial to keep in mind that not all conditions can be safely treated using do-it-yourself methods. To prevent long-term damage, certain beauty procedures—particularly those involving potent chemicals—require professional knowledge and expertise.According to Dr. Vidushi Jain, medical head of Dermalinks in Delhi-NCR, homemade peels frequently employ the incorrect acid concentrations without taking the safety of the skin into account. They lack the professional followup that such procedures require, which can lead to burns, infections, uneven pigmentation, and delayed healing. "Many kits have strong acids like TCA or glycolic acid that can harm the skin," says Dr. Yadav.

Rice, rinse, repeat: A method for eliminating hair loss issues with rice water

Rice, rinse, repeat: A method for eliminating hair loss issues with rice water

Like a cunning direct message, haircare issues appear in life and never seem to go away. Hair fall, split ends, and frizzy hair are frequent problems that practically everyone complains about. However, sometimes a straightforward home remedy is all that is needed to solve the problem. In nations like China and Japan, people have been rinsing their hair and nourishing the scalp with misty water that has a faintly milky quality. Some promote it as a hair elixir. We are referring to rice water, which is a starchy, hazy liquid that is produced by boiling or soaking rice.People have been using rice water for generations. It is thought to improve hair health, lessen breakage, and give hair a glossy, lengthy appearance.Rice water is more than simply a do-it-yourself fad. Although it enjoyed a brief period of popularity, its true origins date back hundreds of years. A nutritional powerhouse is fermented rice water. It contains vital proteins, vitamins, minerals, and certain amino acids that support the growth and health of hair follicles. Protein and amino acid concentration may contribute to the hair's strength, volume, and texture. The main ingredient is inositol, a carbohydrate that increases the suppleness and strength of hair. For this reason, rinsing with rice water can improve texture, encourage development, and help with mending. Despite the lack of scientific proof, rice water has become increasingly popular. A number of hair care companies have even launched product lines that include conditioners, hair treatments, and other items made from rice. Why is rice water a convenient option? Since it's essentially a beauty elixir that's conveniently located on your kitchen shelf. This is how you can utilize it: When the rice water is done, apply it to your hair and spend a few minutes massaging your scalp gently. This enhances blood circulation in addition to assisting with the water's uniform distribution. Additionally, you can use it after shampooing. Before rinsing, let it stay for 20 to 30 minutes to give the nutrients time to absorb.

Is the 'Caveman Skincare Routine' a hoax in terms of hygiene?

Is the 'Caveman Skincare Routine' a hoax in terms of hygiene?

I'm a regular TikTok scroller (the four hours of screen time a day speaks for itself), and I've seen a ton of beauty films, from popular trends to amazing hacks that would put a Victorian kid in a coma. The caveman skincare method, however, may just take the biscuit—or perhaps I should say water—as the most talked-about topic on SkinTok lately. The 'Caveman Skincare Method' is the skincare regimen that TikTok creator Tia Zakher has lately described in a number of videos on the platform. "After 8 years of picking and over-exfoliating, I'm healing my skin barrier by doing the one thing I never tried before... absolutely nothing," Tia explains in a video that has received 9.7 million views. In other words, she has stopped using water in addition to all skincare products (I'm referring about moisturizer, exfoliant, and cleanser). Tia responded to Cosmopolitan UK's inquiry on why she chose to utilize the caveman skincare method by saying, "I decided to do it because I wanted to try a different approach and I do think it's working for me."

An Overview of the UPSC Issue | SCO Summit 2025 and India: Four Crucial Questions for Prelims and Mains

An Overview of the UPSC Issue | SCO Summit 2025 and India: Four Crucial Questions for Prelims and Mains

By scheduling two significant events in one week—the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in the northeastern city of Tianjin and a Victory Day parade in Beijing's Tiananmen Square commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II—Beijing has entered diplomatic high season as summer draws to a close. It's difficult to overlook the symbolism. The events convey a clear message: in contrast to the Western narrative of a free international order led by the United States, China is positioning itself as the standard-bearer of a multipolar world dominated by the Global South. Both occasions are expertly produced political plays that combine military prowess, diplomatic posture, and historical narrative. Additionally, China has two audiences in mind: it wants to project power and influence in its neighborhood and beyond while simultaneously boosting domestic public morale. For a long time, Chinese strategists have emphasized that the goal of foreign policy is to establish an external environment that supports economic growth at home. Originating with previous Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, this core idea has evolved into the current leadership's catchphrase for negotiating a turbulent global landscape. The two events' participating nations attest to China's continued strategic emphasis on Asia. The majority of major Asian nations are represented among the more than 30 heads of state and international organizations taking part, with the notable exception of Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines—all of whom are strong security partners of the United States.

Chinese Envoy: U.S. Tariffs Threaten Stability, Demand Response

Chinese Envoy: U.S. Tariffs Threaten Stability, Demand Response

In a recent address, China's Ambassador to the United States warned that remaining silent in the face of increasing U.S. tariffs would only encourage further pressure. The statement comes amid growing tensions over trade policies, with the U.S. implementing new tariffs on Chinese goods in what it says is a response to unfair trade practices and national security concerns. The ambassador urged dialogue and mutual respect, emphasizing that cooperation, rather than confrontation, benefits both nations. He suggested that escalating trade barriers harm not just the economies involved but also global supply chains and ordinary consumers who bear the cost of such measures. While the U.S. maintains that its tariffs are necessary to protect domestic industries and maintain fair competition, Chinese officials argue that these steps are politically motivated and harmful to long-term stability. The ambassador's remarks appear to reflect a broader effort by China to rally international support against what it views as economic coercion. As both countries continue to shape global economic trends, the tone and direction of their engagement will have wide-reaching implications—not only for governments and businesses but for millions of people whose daily lives are touched by the trade between the two powers.

As the nation commemorates the centennial of Vajpayee's birth, his legacy endures.

The centennial of Atal Bihari Vajpayee honors his important political accomplishments to India. He served a full term as India's first prime minister who was not a member of the Congress. Vajpayee continues to play an admirable role in Indo-Pakistan ties, coalition politics, and effective administration. He was a great statesman and orator who had a long-lasting effect on national policy and parliamentary democracy in India.Using his trademark flourish, Atal Bihari Vajpayee made one of his most well-known predictions during the BJP's first convention at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on December 30, 1980: "Andhera chhatega, suraj niklega, kamal khilega" (darkness will end, the sun will rise, lotus will bloom). His remarks have held up well as the centennial of his birth approaches, with lotuses in full bloom and the BJP regaining control of the center for a third consecutive term.Vajpayee assisted the BJP in gaining traction when its cultural goal was viewed as anathema, if Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it the focal point of national politics. In a world full of powerful satraps, India's first non-Congress prime minister to serve a full term was a statesman politician and an unmatched orator who garnered admiration and respect from people on both sides of the political spectrum. He stood tall with his natural democratic spirit, which he had developed over decades of opposition.

Israel’s war on Gaza live: Imminent famine an ‘entirely manmade disaster’

UN chief Antonio Guterres says a new report warning that famine is now imminent in northern Gaza is an “appalling indictment” of the situation on the ground. In a statement released on X, Reporters Without Borders, also known by its French name Reporters sans frontieres (RSF), has called the arrest of Al Jazeera Arabic’s Ismail al-Ghoul “part of Israel’s ongoing crackdown on the press”. “RSF demands the release of correspondent Ismail a-Ghoul, arrested by the army at Al-Shifa hospital,” the statement reads, saying that he was beaten and his equipment destroyed. We’ve been reporting all day on intense fighting at and near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, has reported on its Telegram channel that its fighters have been engaged in “fierce clashes” with Israeli forces in the area since dawn. The group said it targeted “a number of Zionist vehicles, causing deaths and injuries among their ranks”.The organisation’s global humanitarian director, Unni Krishnan, says that according to the IPC’s analysis in December, famine could be prevented if a cessation of hostilities occurred in the Gaza conflict and increased humanitarian aid entered the enclave, but that did not happen. “This horrific situation was entirely avoidable, and it’s not too late to take action to prevent more children from dying. We fully agree with the IPC warning: Waiting for a confirmation that famine is occurring or has actually occurred to take radical measures is indefensible,” Krishnan said. He added that his organisation “more urgently than ever before” calls for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and a massive increase in humanitarian assistance”. “Israeli restrictions on aid, siege tactics, and Israeli military attacks against civilians, humanitarian aid, health and relief workers must cease immediately. The starvation of the civilian population is illegal under international humanitarian law.”

Russia Begins Voting As Ukraine Steps Up Border Attacks

Russia Begins Voting As Ukraine Steps Up Border Attacks

Officials in Moscow warned against any protests during the March 15-17 presidential vote, after calls from the opposition for anti-Putin demonstrations on Sunday.Russia began voting on Friday in an election set to prolong President Vladimir Putin's rule by six more years, as Kyiv branded the vote a "farce" and launched a barrage of deadly attacks on border regions. Officials in Moscow warned against any protests during the March 15-17 presidential vote, after calls from the opposition for anti-Putin demonstrations on Sunday. The Kremlin says the vote will show that the country is fully behind his assault on Ukraine and polling stations have been set up in Russian-held territories.Ahead of the election, Kyiv ramped up its aerial bombardment of Russian regions just across their shared border. The Russian National Guard said it was fighting off attacks from pro-Ukrainian militias in Kursk, the latest in a string of border clashes. "I am convinced: you realize what a difficult period our country is going through, what complex challenges we are facing in almost all areas," Putin said in an address to Russians on the eve of the vote. "And in order to continue to respond to them with dignity and successfully overcome difficulties, we need to continue to be united and self-confident." Polling stations opened in Russia's easternmost Kamchatka peninsula at 8:00 am local time on Friday and are set to close at 8:00 pm (1800 GMT) on Sunday in Kaliningrad -- a Russian exclave bordering Poland and Lithuania. All of Putin's major critics are dead, in prison or in exile, and authorities blocked the few genuine competitors who tried to stand in the contest. Alexei Navalny, Putin's most high-profile opponent over the last decade, died in February in an Arctic prison colony. He was serving 19 years for "extremism", a sentence widely seen as retribution for his campaigning against the Kremlin leader. Moscow prosecutors warned against protests during the election. "The organization of and participation in these mass events are punishable by virtue of the legislation in place," they said in a statement posted on Telegram. Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya, has called for rallies outside polling stations on Sunday, the final day of voting. Kyiv has this week launched some of its most significant aerial attacks since the start of the two-year conflict. The governor of Russia's Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that at least three separate waves of aerial attacks had killed two people, wounding several others. He accused Ukraine of trying to "sow panic, distrust, anger, and resentment, in order to break the unit of our society". Pro-Ukrainian paramilitaries also claimed to be escalating attacks and incursions in Russian border regions. In a joint statement, three pro-Kyiv volunteer groups -- claiming to consist of anti-Kremlin Russians who have taken up arms -- called on authorities to evacuate civilians from the regions of Belgorod and Kursk. "Civilians should not suffer from the war and any casualties in the process of fighting will be on the conscience" of the regions' governors, they added. Russia has denied militias' claims to have gained ground. The National Guard said its units had beaten back one such attack near the village of Tyotkino in Kursk. The defense ministry said it had fended off another by Ukrainian forces trying to enter Belgorod via the village of Spodariushino, without saying when the clash had happened.

Putin Didn Threaten To Use Nukes, US Took Him Out Of Context

Putin said in the interview published on Wednesday that Russia was technically ready for nuclear war and that if the U.S. sent troops to Ukraine, it would be considered a significant escalation of the conflict. The Kremlin said on Thursday that comments on nuclear weapons that Russian President Vladimir Putin made in an interview with state media did not constitute a threat to use them, and accused the U.S. of deliberately taking the remarks out of context. Putin said in the interview published on Wednesday that Russia was technically ready for nuclear war and that if the U.S. sent troops to Ukraine, it would be considered a significant escalation of the conflict. Commenting on Putin's words, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that Washington understood that the Russian leader was restating Moscow's nuclear doctrine, but accused Russia of deploying "reckless and irresponsible" nuclear rhetoric throughout the Ukraine conflict.Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Putin had merely been answering a journalist's questions on the subject and restating the already well-known circumstances in which Russia would theoretically be forced to use nuclear weapons. Peskov also drew attention to the fact that Putin had said in the same interview that the idea of using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine had never crossed his mind. Asked about the White House comments, Peskov said: "This was deliberately taking something out of context. Putin made no threats about the use of nuclear weapons in this interview. The president was just talking about the reasons that could make the use of nuclear weapons inevitable. "These are the reasons that are stated in our relevant documents, which are well known throughout the world. Moreover, everyone in the West deliberately failed to notice his words that it had never occurred to him to use tactical nuclear weapons (in Ukraine), despite the various situations that have developed in the course of the fighting."This is a deliberate distortion of the context and an unwillingness to hear President Putin."

Israeli Fire Kills 6 Palestinians Awaiting Aid Trucks: Gaza Health Ministry

Palestinians were rushing to get aid supplies at the Kuwait roundabout in northern Gaza City late on Wednesday evening when Israeli forces opened fire, residents and health officials said.Israeli fire killed six Palestinians and wounded dozens of others as crowds of residents awaited aid trucks in Gaza City, Gaza health ministry officials said on Thursday. Palestinians were rushing to get aid supplies at the Kuwait roundabout in northern Gaza City late on Wednesday evening when Israeli forces opened fire, residents and health officials said. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident. The conflict in Gaza has displaced most of the enclave's 2.3 million population and there have been chaotic scenes and deadly incidents at aid distributions as desperately hungry people scramble for food.On Feb. 29, Palestinian health authorities said Israeli forces shot dead more than 100 Palestinians as they waited for an aid delivery near Gaza City. Israel blamed the deaths on crowds that surrounded aid trucks, saying victims had been trampled or run over. In Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza, an Israeli missile hit a house, killing nine people on Thursday, Palestinian medics said. Residents said Israeli aerial and ground bombardments continued overnight on areas across the enclave including in Rafah in the south, where over a million displaced people are sheltering. The war began when Hamas fighters attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and seizing 253 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. Israel then launched an air, sea, and ground assault that has killed more than 31,000 Palestinians, health authorities in Hamas-run Gaza say. The Gaza health ministry said on Thursday Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip had killed 69 Palestinians and wounded 110 others in the past 24 hours. With the war now in its sixth month, the U.N. has warned that at least 576,000 people in Gaza - one quarter of the population - are on the brink of famine and global pressure has been growing on Israel to allow more access to the enclave. Israel denies obstructing aid deliveries into Gaza. It has blamed failures by aid agencies for delays and has accused Hamas of diverting aid. Hamas denies this and says Israel uses hunger as a weapon in its military offensive. A ship carrying aid is currently approaching Gaza in a pilot trial of maritime delivery, that is expected to be followed up by a U.S. military effort to set up a dock on Gaza's coast that will enable distribution of up to two million meals a day. While welcoming aid ships, Palestinian and U.N. officials say maritime deliveries are not a substitute for sending aid through land crossings.

BJP trying to steal another Thackeray: Uddhav fumes as MNS chiefs meeting with Amit Shah sparks alliance buzz

Following the meeting of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to "steal" another "Thackeray" to win the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He also accused the party of trying to appropriate the legacy of Bal Thackeray. Although, while addressing a rally in Nanded, Uddhav claimed that he is not bothered if the BJP took away his estranged cousin. Earlier today, Raj Thackeray met Amit Shah in Delhi amid speculations of BJP's interest in an alliance with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for a boost in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The Sena (UBT) chief charged at the BJP saying that it knows well that they don't get votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Maharashtra. "People vote here in the name of (Bal) Thackeray. This realisation prompted the BJP to try to steal leaders from outside (BJP fold)," he said during his two-day tour of Nanded and Hingoli districts in the Marathwada region. "First, they stole the photo of Bal Thackeray, but it doesn't matter. Today, they are trying to steal another Thackeray....take it, I and my people are enough," he added. Claiming that even Christians and Muslims have no issue with his style of Hindutva, Uddhav Thackeray said that the image of Shiv Sena (undivided) was getting sullied when they were with the BJP. Shiv Sena (UBT) is a part of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi and INDIA bloc. Uddhav's estranged cousin Raj Thackeray had parted ways with the Shiv Sena due to his differences with Uddhav. He then founded the MNS in 2006.

Congress Kharge attacks Modi as BJP gets 50% funding

Congress Kharge attacks Modi as BJP gets 50% funding

The details of the electoral bonds data published by the Election Commission (ECI) on Thursday has caused quite a stir in political circles, with the Opposition accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a huge "scam" in the name of funding. The country's main Opposition Congress party's President, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday directly charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with corruption as the data showed that the BJP encashed nearly 50 per cent of all the bonds purchased. The BJP encashed electoral bonds worth Rs 6060.5 crore, which is 47.5 per cent of the total bonds issued by the State Bank of India (SBI) between April 12, 2019 and January 24, 2024. "PM Modi says "na khaunga, na khane dunga, but it seems that he only meant —"sirf BJP ko khilaunga," Kharge charged. His remarks referred to Modi's popular slogan about eliminating corruption, often used in his election campaigns. "There are many dubious donors. Who are these people? Which companies are these? Why have so many companies donated only after ED, IT and CBI raids? Who exerted the pressure on such companies? We demand the highest level of enquiry by the Hon'ble Supreme Court to investigate this saga of corruption by the BJP," Kharge said. He also highlighted the huge disparity in the amount received by the BJP and the Congress – 47.5 per cent against 11 per cent. Raking up the recent issue of Congress' bank accounts being frozen, he questioned why no action has been taken against the BJP, which has "illegally acquired crores and crores of money." The Congress further demanded that an enquiry should be made on the issue and the BJP's accounts should be frozen immediately. The Congress and other Opposition are crying foul over the scheme, alleging it has disproportionately benefited the ruling party. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, Kabil Sibal among other Opposition leaders have alleged the BJP of having carried out "extortion" by "harassing" corporates with financial probe agencies.

BJP received more funds than the next 6 parties combined

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the frontrunner in the encashment of electoral bonds, securing a staggering Rs 6,060.5 crore between April 12, 2019, and January 24, 2024. This figure represents over 47.5 per cent of the total bonds encashed during the period.Following closely behind, the All India Trinamool Congress received Rs 1,609.50 crore (12.6 per cent) via electoral bonds, while the Congress secured Rs 1,421.9 crore (11.1 per cent), solidifying their positions as the second and third biggest beneficiaries of this funding scheme, that was struck down by the Supreme Court earlier this year. Notably, Future Gaming and Hotel Services PR, owned by lottery tycoon Santiago Martin, emerged as the single largest donor to political parties during the aforementioned period. The firm donated Rs 1,368 crore through electoral bonds, according to data released by the State Bank of India (SBI) and published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 14. Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited, headquartered in Hyderabad, secured the second spot on the list of top donors, having contributed Rs 1,200 crore in combination with three associated companies. Other prominent donors included Qwik Supply Chain Private Limited (Rs 410 crore), Haldia Energy Limited (Rs 377 crore), Vedanta Limited (Rs 375.65 crore), and Essel Mining and Industries Limited (Rs 224.45 crore), among others. In total, more than 22 entities donated over Rs 100 crore each during this period, with electoral bonds worth over Rs 12,155 crore being purchased and over Rs 12,769 crore being encashed by political parties. This significant data has been made public by the ECI following the disclosure of information by SBI on March 12. The Supreme Court's directive mandated the ECI to host this information on its website by March 15. On Friday, the Supreme Court further directed the SBI to share the unique electoral bond numbers that would allow the linking of donors to their respective political contributions. The SBI is required to hand in this information to the ECI by 5 pm on Saturday.

Indias solar waste could reach 600 kilotonnes by 2030, shows study

Indias solar waste could reach 600 kilotonnes by 2030, shows study

India's current installed 66.7 GW capacity (as of FY23) has already generated about 100 kilotonnes of waste, which will increase to 340 kilotonnes by 2030. This will include about 10 kilotonnes of silicon, 12-18 tonnes of silver, and 16 tonnes of cadmium and tellurium the majority of which are critical minerals for India, the study titled "Enabling a Circular Economy in India's Solar Industry: Assessing the Solar Waste Quantum" said.India's solar waste could reach a staggering 600 kilotonnes by 2030 equivalent to filling up 720 Olympic-size swimming pools according to a new study released on Wednesday. The study by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and independent think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) said around 67 per cent of this waste will come from five states: Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.Recycling solar waste to recover these materials will reduce import dependency and enhance India's mineral security. The study found that the rest of the 260 kilotonnes of waste will come from new capacity that will be deployed in this decade (from 2024 to 2030). The solar waste will increase to about 19,000 kilotonnes by 2050; 77 per cent of which will arise from new capacities, CEEW said, adding this is an opportunity for India to emerge as a leading hub of circular economy for the solar industry and ensure resilient solar supply chains. India plans to amass around 292 gigawatt of solar capacity by 2030, making solar PV waste management crucial for environmental, economic, and social reasons. The study, conducted under Niti Aayog's Action Plan for Circular Economy - Solar Panels, for the first time, estimates India-specific solar waste generation from various streams, excluding manufacturing. This information is crucial for creating data-driven waste management policies. India is already implementing several measures to tackle the waste. Last year, the environment ministry issued amended E-waste Management Rules 2022 bringing solar photovoltaic cells, panels, and modules under its ambit. These rules mandate the producers of solar cells and modules to manage their waste under the extended producer responsibility (EPR) framework. Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, CEEW, said, India must proactively address solar waste, not just as an environmental imperative but as a strategic necessity for ensuring energy security and building a circular economy. As we witness the remarkable growth of solar from only 4 GW in March 2015 to 73 GW in December 2023, robust recycling mechanisms become increasingly crucial. They safeguard renewable ecosystems, create green jobs, enhance mineral security, foster innovation, and build resilient, circular supply chains.

UP govt aims to develop MSME export hubs to compete in global markets

UP govt aims to develop MSME export hubs to compete in global markets

The MSME department is working on a plan to promote 75 districts as potential export hubs for local industries to create jobs and contribute to the Rs 1 trillion dollar economy goal. The state government will develop local export hubs and nudge the e-commerce sector to double micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) shipments to Rs 3 trillion in two-three years, according to sources. The sector contributes 60 per cent to UP’s annual industrial output and is the leading employment generator after agriculture and allied activities. The state will invest in the promotion and online marketing of MSMEs, especially under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, to compete in the global markets. The sector played a vital role in attracting private investment in the state, said Rakesh Sachan, the state’s MSME minister. The MSME department will send officials to Tamil Nadu and Odisha to study the mechanism of raw material banks set up in these states for possible replication. However, these industries faced impediments to working capital, lack of marketing support, etc. In this regard, the UP government launched the ODOP scheme to revive traditional handicrafts and indigenous industries. Addressing a recent MSME programme in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that when indigenous products gain traction, it is imperative to nurture and incentivise them with a robust platform to flourish in the market.
