The Pebble smartwatch is coming back, revealed Eric Migicovsky, founder of the company. The wearables, once popular for their e-ink displays and long battery life, will once again be powered by PebbleOS, which was made an open-source project by Google. In an impassioned open letter, the founder expressed his wish to reintroduce a smartwatch with critical functionality, saying he has tried "every single smartwatch available," but none of them have all the characteristics he wants.a constantly-on, sunlight-readable, glanceable, and non-distracting electronic paper screen that is reflecting rather than emissive; long battery life to eliminate the need for additional wires when traveling and charge one item at a time; For frequently used functionality like telling the time, alerts, music control, alarms, weather, calendar, and sleep/step tracking, a straightforward and elegant user interface is ideal; Hackable buttons to play, pause, and skip music without turning to face the screen. According to Migicovsky, Pebble has more than 16,000 watch faces available in its app store, but Apple does not permit users to create their own.

The source code for PebbleOS is now accessible online thanks to Google, the Fitbit owner that purchased Pebble's intellectual property. In light of this, the founder is putting together a small group of people who are committed to creating a long-term solution. While keeping the same features and specifications, he urges the group to "continue designing exciting gadgets" and add some fun new choices.
