"AI cannot exist in a vacuum. Deep investments are being made in infrastructure development: Google executives announce the company's $15 billion commitment to an India data center powerhouse. "

Many tech companies' fortunes are directly tied to AI technology, and billions of dollars have been invested in building the AI infrastructure. However, a top Google executive has denied that artificial intelligence is in a bubble, despite growing voices in Silicon Valley and Wall Street suggesting that a bubble may be forming and could eventually burst."It cannot just be a bubble when you consider the magnitude of the money coming in from the entire ecosystem. The construction of AI infrastructure is a significant financial commitment. The process is self-fulfilling. At an event in Delhi on Tuesday, Karan Bajwa, President of Google Cloud, Asia Pacific, told IndianExpress.com, "We are developing capabilities, building infrastructure, bringing them to market, and customers are using them."Following the announcement of a $15 billion investment by the Mountain View, California-based corporation to construct data center capacity for a new AI hub in Andhra Pradesh, the CEO made these remarks. Keep music out of your ears rather than in them with SHOKZ OpenRun Pro 2.

Given how many calls we have to answer, we all spend a lot of time between earphones. We also try to relax by taking walks and running while listening to music or podcasts. Since noise-cancelling devices literally create a vacuum in the canal, our ears are not really designed to handle in-ear audio. This explains why some people, at the very least, favor open-ear headphones and earbuds that allow for natural music listening without isolating you from the outside world. The alternative strategy is used by SHOKZ, a company that produces open-ear headphones that provide sound without causing any damage to the ear canals by using bone conduction technology. The SHOKZ OpenRun Pro 2 maintains your ear canals entirely open while producing high-quality audio through the use of bone conduction and air conduction technology. You can simultaneously hear music and your surroundings thanks to this "open-ear" design, which is especially helpful for safety when running and cycling.

I gave the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold a try… I am now convinced that I don’t need multiple devices

After a month of work-related travel to four major US cities, I returned to India and realized that managing three phones, a laptop, a tablet, a handheld console, and over-ear headphones was no longer feasible for me. It could be overwhelming at times – flying from one city to another, undergoing numerous security checks, and constantly fearing that a device might be left behind. This journey prompted me to reconsider the limits of excess, particularly given that I was going to consecutive tech events in various locations. It seems that I have at last come to understand that juggling several devices is simply not for me. For tech journalists, it is now far more sensible to have a single device, such as the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Though foldables are not yet mainstream (their high cost keeps them out of reach for most consumers), in my experience, the phone-tablet duo does provide a difference compared to carrying a separate phone and tablet; In addition, the user experience appears to have enhanced. While the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may appear similar to last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold that I reviewed, it boasts significant enhancements including a larger battery, a quicker Tensor G5 chip, upgraded cameras, improved displays, water resistance for folding phones, and enhanced integration with Google’s Gemini AI tools. It didn’t take me long to adapt to the folding Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which felt more polished and personal, but switching from my iPhone to the Google phone was still a challenge.

The greatest investment of 2024 was Bitcoin, despite its typical volatility.

The greatest investment of 2024 was Bitcoin, despite its typical volatility.

As new exchange-traded funds brought about broader adoption and as expectations for deregulation under a new presidential administration propelled digital assets to all-time highs, Bitcoin was by far the best-performing asset class in 2024.But as this month's trade makes abundantly evident, cryptocurrency ownership also entails the same instability and wild swings. Since beginning the year at around $40,000, the price of bitcoin has more than doubled, and it is currently trading close to $94,000. Ether last traded at over $3,355, and it has gained almost 50% so far this year. The weeks after the U.S. presidential election were the year's most successful period. Anticipating that President-elect Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris would pave the way for more regulatory certainty and attract fresh investment, the cryptocurrency surged beyond $108,000 for the first time by mid-December. However, prices have decreased since then. The idea that the Federal Reserve's rate reduction will be implemented more slowly than expected has caused Bitcoin to decline for the month. Toward the close of the year, the market has also experienced a period of choppiness and apparent profit-taking.

Wiley's Jarrett on how ethical AI can revolutionize the publishing business

Wiley's Jarrett on how ethical AI can revolutionize the publishing business

The way researchers interact with their readers is being profoundly altered by artificial intelligence (AI), which is also making the scholarly publishing industry more technologically oriented. While human input is still crucial for publication authorship, AI's contribution is constantly growing, according to Josh Jarrett, Senior Vice-President of AI Growth at Wiley, a multinational research and publishing company with a strong presence in India, who spoke with TechCircle. He described how Wiley is prioritizing ethical considerations while improving the publishing experience through the proper use of AI/ML (Machine Learning). Edited passages:How can scholars effectively use AI for scholarly publishing? For a long time, Wiley has strategically chosen to use AI to enhance research procedures. According to recent surveys, scientists are struggling with fundamental issues with AI's capacity to improve language, analyze intricate data, and produce novel theories. We are especially excited about AI's potential to improve authorship, create simulations, find undiscovered gaps, help with literature reviews, and expedite research workflows. But we also acknowledge the difference between cautious experts and eager early adopters. By creating strong standards, policies, procedures, and instruments that uphold integrity, we hope to close this gap and guarantee that Wiley and its collaborators influence the direction of AI research in the future.

The iPhone's evolution: How Apple has altered its design over the past 16 years

Apple's newest device, the iPhone 15, will be available in stores nationwide in less than a day. Since everyone carries a smartphone these days, it's easy to overlook how revolutionary the original iPhone was and how much it's changed over time. This shows the evolution of the iPhone from 2007 until 2023.On January 9, 2007, Apple CEO Steve Jobs finally revealed the original iPhone after months of conjecture. The 4GB model of the smartphone, which didn't actually go on sale until June, cost $499, while the 8GB model (with a two-year commitment) cost $599. It had a 2-megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch screen, and was praised for its then-novel multitouch capabilities. However, some claimed that the phone was too costly to succeed in the market. (See the narrative of the iPhone launch.)Apple released the iPhone 3G, its replacement, on June 9, 2008, one year after the original iPhone went on sale. The new model was more affordable, had more capacity, a built-in GPS, and the ability to connect to quicker 3G networks. The iPhone 3G, which went on sale on July 11 for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model, featured a feature known as location services. Steve Jobs, the CEO of the iPhone, predicted that location services would be a major feature. "That's going to blow up." (Refer to the launch narrative.)

The 'final chance' for social media to address unlawful posts

The 'final chance' for social media to address unlawful posts

As the Online Safety Act (OSA) goes into effect, online platforms will have to start evaluating whether their services expose users to unlawful content by March 16, 2025, or risk financial penalties. The UK's internet safety regulator, Ofcom, released its final codes of practice on Monday that outline how businesses should handle unlawful online content.Platforms may be fined up to 10% of their worldwide turnover if they don't do risk assessments within three months of discovering possible harms to their services. Dame Melanie Dawes, the director of Ofcom, told BBC News that this was the industry's "last chance" to reform."If they don't start to seriously change the way they operate their services, then I think those demands for things like bans for children on social media are going to get more and more vigorous," she stated. "I'm asking the industry now to get moving, and if they don't they will be hearing from us with enforcement action from March." Platforms must determine when, where, and how illegal content may appear on their services as well as how they will prevent it from reaching users in accordance with Ofcom's regulations. According to the OSA, this includes anything that promotes or facilitates suicide, self-harm, extreme sexual violence, controlling or coercive behavior, or child sexual abuse material (CSAM).However, detractors claim that the Act ignores a variety of ills that children face. The OSA has "deep structural issues," according to the Molly Rose Foundation, which was established in honor of adolescent Molly Russell, who committed herself in 2017 after seeing pictures of herself harming herself on social media. Its chief executive, Andy Burrows, stated that the organization was "astonished and disappointed" that Ofcom's guidelines did not include explicit, targeted steps for platforms on handling suicide and self-harm content. "Robust regulation remains the best way to tackle illegal content, but it simply isn't acceptable for the regulator to take a gradualist approach to immediate threats to life," he stated.

Get ready for the cyberwar, CW EMEA

Cyber security experts and prominent government and business organizations prepared for a probable online conflict when the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out in October. We discuss cyberwar, threat activity trends, and what security teams can do to safeguard their organizations in this issue of CW EMEA. We also examine the developments in quantum computing in Finland, the technology developed by Belgian researchers to speed up datacenter processing, and the keys to KPN's successful economic transformation. Go ahead and read the issue.Later, a senior minister will warn that Russia is prepared to launch cyberattacks against the UK and other allies in an effort to erode support for Ukraine. At a NATO summit, Pat McFadden, the chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, who is also in charge of national security, is expected to warn that the Kremlin might attack British companies and deprive millions of people of their electricity. McFadden is to describe Russia's cyberwarfare capabilities as a "hidden war" being fought against Ukraine, and this is the most recent in a string of warnings about them. Additionally, he is anticipated to specifically target Russia's Unit 29155, which the government claims has conducted several strikes in Europe and the United Kingdom. The cabinet minister will warn that "cyber war can be destabilizing and debilitating" and characterize the Kremlin as "exceptionally aggressive and reckless" in this regard during a lecture to the NATO Cyber Defense Conference at Lancaster House in London. The potential for Russia to "turn the lights off for millions of people" by shutting down power grids and its readiness to target British companies "in pursuit of its malign goals" will be the main topics of McFadden's discussion. "My message to members today is clear: nobody should undervalue the Russian cyber threat to NATO, especially considering the intensity of that antagonism. He will inform the assembled NATO members, "The threat is real." He will assert that hacker collectives supporting the Russian government are accountable for at least

The Canada division of TikTok is requesting a court review of the shutdown orders.

The Canada division of TikTok is requesting a court review of the shutdown orders.

Dec. 10 (Reuters): According to a statement released on Tuesday, TikTok's Canada division filed an emergency action with the Federal Court of Canada, requesting a judicial review of an order that the firm shut down its activities in the nation due to national security concerns. In a filing dated December 5, the Chinese-owned social media app asked the court to overturn a government order for TikTok to shut down its operations in Canada. The court might, instead, revoke the order and send it back to the administration for review and direction, according to the brief. Last year, TikTok's ambition to invest and grow its business in Canada was the subject of an investigation by Ottawa. Due to national security concerns, the government issued an order last month requiring the company to cease operations in Canada as a result of the review. In its statement on the legal action, TikTok claimed that closing its Canadian operation would result in the loss of hundreds of jobs."We believe it's in the best interest of Canadians to find a meaningful solution and ensure that a local team remains in place, alongside the TikTok platform," added the statement. The government can evaluate any national security threats from foreign investments, like the TikTok proposal, in accordance with Canadian legislation. The government is prohibited by law from disclosing the specifics of these investments. The decision from last month did not completely prohibit Canadians from using the well-known social media site. According to the corporation, TikTok has over 14 million monthly users in Canada.A request for comment from Reuters outside of usual business hours was not immediately answered by Canada's Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Industry. The Canadian ruling came after a similar measure was taken in the United States, when President Joe Biden signed a law in April mandating that Bytedance, the company that controls TikTok, sell its U.S. assets by January 19, 2025, or risk a statewide ban. Separately, TikTok and Bytedance requested on Monday that an appeals court temporarily halt the law until the Supreme Court reviews it.

Review of the Google Pixel 9 Pro: Hi, tiny phone

Review of the Google Pixel 9 Pro: Hi, tiny phone

I have a well-established affinity with little phones, and I am the biggest lover of the iPhone 13 mini. But as the gadget has begun to age, I think it's time to upgrade, so I recently done so with the iPhone 16 Pro (I also use the Pixel 9 Pro Fold a lot, and it's really beautiful). I still have a strong need for a little phone, though, and I don't believe Apple intends to bring back the iPhone Mini series anytime soon. For the time being, the Google Pixel 9 Pro has become my new friend (it was my backup smartphone for a few days). It was long overdue for a flagship-level tiny phone, and the Pixel 9 Pro is an intriguing and

Byju's bankruptcy: Riju Raveendran petitions the NCLT to be included in the case

On Monday, Riju Raveendran, the brother of Byju Raveendran, the founder of the insolvent edtech company, and its largest stakeholder, went to the Bengaluru insolvency tribunal to request inclusion in the case. The tribunal, however, voiced concerns over his involvement in the proceedings. Before the tribunal, Riju's attorney begged for permission to defend himself against claims made by Byju's lenders—specifically, Glas Trust, a US-based lender—about where the Rs 158 crore that was first given to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to pay its debts came from.Byju's US-based lenders had resisted the settlement, arguing that the funds utilized to reimburse BCCI were corrupted because they were included in the $533 million that was purportedly "missing." The tribunal, however, stated that determining the source of funds falls under the jurisdiction of the income tax authorities and the Enforcement Directorate. It directed the lenders to file objections to Raveendran’s plea and adjourned the hearing. However, the panel declared that the Enforcement Directorate and the income tax authorities had the authority to ascertain the source of funds. It postponed the hearing and instructed the lenders to oppose to Raveendran's plea. The appeal panel was earlier informed by Riju Raveendran, a board member of the business, that the funds paid to the BCCI were "clean." His attorney had maintained that the $533 million that the lenders said was "missing" did not include the payment to the BCCI. The US lenders and Byju's parent business, Think & Learn, are at odds over the missing funds.

A 90% loss in earnings is caused by Twitter India's declining ad income.

For the most recent fiscal year, Twitter Communications India, now a division of X Corp (previously known as Twitter), reported a sharp drop in both net profit and sales. According to an Economic Times investigation, this decline is mostly due to a sharp decline in advertising revenue when Elon Musk's new leadership fired the worldwide ad sales team. The company's net profit fell 90% to Rs 3 crore from Rs 30 crore the year before, according to regulatory records. In a similar vein, revenue dropped sharply by 90%, from Rs 208 crore to Rs 21 crore. In India, Twitter's primary revenue source is still advertising. The company responded to these difficulties by cutting employee benefit costs by 95%, from Rs 130 crore to Rs 6 crore, after firing almost all of its staff in India, which once had more than 200 workers. Consequently, overall costs decreased by 89%, from Rs 168 crore to Rs 19 crore. This dramatic drop in revenue has been caused in part by the removal of the ad sales staff and the withdrawal of international businesses from the platform, which is partly the result of continuous conflicts with Musk. Under Musk's direction, X Corp has even taken big marketers like Mars and Unilever to court over their boycott of the platform. According to Kantar research, 26% of marketers intend to reduce their X advertising budgets in 2025, which is the biggest decrease ever seen from any major international ad platform.
