Ayodhya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol at the recently constructed temple on Monday, drawing in about 9,500 invitees, including 4,000 saints, a galactic cast of businessmen, actors, and celebrities.
Special black granite from Karnataka was used to make the 51-inch Ram Lalla idol. HS Venkatesh, Director of the National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) in Bengaluru, attested to the stone's 2.5 billion-year age.
There are 44 doors and 392 pillars supporting the Nagara-style temple. The pillars and walls of the temple showcase intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities, Gods, and Goddesses.The ornate temple was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹ 1,800 crore, which the project's supporters claim was funded by public donations. Approximately 2,500 musicians entertained the throngs of pilgrims around the temple on over 100 stages.
Among the other Indian film celebrities who attended the ceremony were Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Rohit Shetty, and Rajkumar Hirani.
The Ayodhya airport, which was constructed in an unprecedented 20 months ahead of schedule for the major temple ceremony, saw the arrival of over 100 charter aircraft. They were stationed at airports in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, and Lucknow.
Around 20,000 packets of 'mahaprasad' were prepared to distribute among the invitees and devotees. The packets, say reports, contained gur ki revdi, ghee
