Sunil Kumar Gupta, an ex-prisoner who starred in the recently released Netflix series Black Warrant, talked about his encounters with prominent prisoner Charles Sobhraj. Black Warrant is based on a novel that Sunil Gupta co-authored. Earlier this month, the series was released to favorable reviews. He recalled enlisting the serial killer into his jail's legal paperwork department and discussed dealing with him in a recent interview. He claimed that because Sobhraj was so skilled at drafting petitions for inmates, his success rate was higher than that of certain attorneys.Speaking on the Dostcast YouTube channel, he expressed his extreme happiness at being appointed a "legal assistant" at Tihar Jail. "Sobhraj kept coming to me with something or other," he stated. He kept coming to me, even though it's not like I did him any favors. He enjoyed creating petitions for inmates. Unbelievably, his petitions had a far greater success rate than those filed by qualified attorneys. In addition to his education, he had experience. He therefore understood precisely what words to use while speaking to the judges.

He said that his idea to establish a legal library within the prison was accepted. "I recruited other convicts because I wasn't assigned proper typists," he added. I also got a man named Gurdeep, who was convicted of murder, in addition to Sobhraj. A Captain Rathod, who was found guilty of spying for Pakistan, was the next person I had. Had he not turned to espionage, he would have been a general. The jail handbook states that each inmate should be used to the fullest extent possible, according to Sunil Gupta. "We used Sobhraj because he was skilled at legal documentation." However, Sobhraj "betrayed" Sunil's confidence by staging an escape and adding sedatives to all of the jailers' desserts on his birthday. Eventually, he was apprehended once more. After that, Sobhraj was put in jail in Nepal. He was repatriated to his native France in 2022 after being released from the Nepali jail due to his advanced age.
