Brad Pitt on Divorce, Drinking, and Finding His Way Back

Brad Pitt is speaking honestly about the tough period that followed his split from Angelina Jolie. The two were together for over a decade before Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. Their breakup, finalized in 2024 after years of legal battles, marked the start of a difficult chapter in Pitt’s life—one that led him to confront his drinking.
In a recent episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Pitt, now 61, talked about hitting rock bottom after the end of his marriage. “I was pretty much on my knees,” he said. “I needed to wake the f*** up in some areas. I needed rebooting.”
He turned to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), a support group that helped him begin the process of getting sober. Pitt described attending meetings for over a year, where he found comfort in hearing other men speak openly about their struggles and regrets—with honesty, vulnerability, and even humor.
“It was just incredible—men sharing their experiences, their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches,” he shared. Though he faced criticism for speaking publicly about the program, Pitt said the experience gave him a sense of release. “It was freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself.”
Life After the Split
Pitt and Jolie, who married in 2014 after nearly a decade together, spent eight years in and out of court—mainly over custody of their six children and a shared French winery.
What’s Next
Brad Pitt is now gearing up for his next film, F1, a Formula One racing drama directed by Joseph Kosinski. The movie also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem.
