During the casting process, Prem remembered how Sunil Lahri, who played Laxman in the show, responded when he asked him take off his shirt. "When Sunil came to my cabin, I told him to take off his shirt," he added. Then Sunil said, "I felt very funny," to Prem. Prem went on, "I was interested in seeing his torso."During the casting process, Prem remembered how Sunil Lahri, who played Laxman in the show, responded when he asked him take off his shirt. It became an enormous hit when it was rerun on Doordarshan during the epidemic. In 2005, Ramanand Sagar passed away.Prem Sagar recounted how the cast of the legendary TV series encountered a setback when they were unable to find an actor to play Sugriv in an interview with Lehren Retro. It was getting to be impossible for the actor and Dara Singh, who played Hanuman, to match each other. In the end, actor Shyamsundar Kalani took up the role.
We looked everywhere—in Shivaji Park, Worli, and at akhadas—but we were unable to find anything. We had to start filming right away because we had to shoot an episode every week. We couldn't claim that Sugriv was nowhere to be found. We were filming a scene in a bush one day between two and three in the morning. By the end, we were all exhausted, and my father had told us to "pack up," turning out the lights. Abruptly, we noticed a mammoth rising from the horizon. We were really scared. We wondered if that represented a devata or a ghost. It was only being seen by 50–100 people when it began to rush in our direction. It was an unforgettable moment. Approximately ten feet from my father, he leaped and landed on his feet, which he grasped. The lightmen turned on the lights at the same moment. He was a man of considerable build. When my father questioned him about his identity, the man said, "I'm Sugriv!" I'm an Indore-based wrestler who always wanted to portray Ramayan because I used to watch him. So I dressed like him when I came here. It was a miracle, this. When they requested Prem Sagar to read dialogue, he replied that in akhadas, people would typically speak harshly. "We assumed that he would speak in that manner, so we gave him the Sugriv mask and voiced all of his dialogues!" He also remembered a funny thing that happened with the actor Ramesh Chaurasia's role Sushen Vaidya. In Indore, he worked as a paan-walah. His paan-shop became a legend after the episode. People believed they would get better if they ate pan from his store. When Lakshman was hurt, Sushen Vaidya—a Raj Vaidya of Ravana—was the one who gave Lord Ram the remedy.Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia, and Sunil Lahri, the main players from Ramayan, have been invited to Ayodhya to participate in the Pran Pratishtha event, which takes place on Monday.
