Vaiko now wants L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, to be banned.

Following closely behind the producers of the Malayalam movie L2: On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, MDMK general secretary Vaiko requested the Tamil Nadu government to "ban the screening" of the Mohanlal film, empuraanannouncing voluntary cuts in response to right-wing groups' complaints. He claimed the film had shown the Mullaperiyar dam as dangerous.The Rajya Sabha MP stated in a statement that the movie mentioned a dam in Nedumpally and that a scene argued for its demolition because the British had threatened the Travancore ruler with a 999-year land lease. Mr. Vaiko stated, "Dialogues in four places say even though the king and the British have left, the dam is still there to destroy Kerala.
"He said that another discussion supported "bombing" the dam. Recalling the conversations, Mr. Vaiko stated, "If we bomb the dam, which is drowning people even if two shutters are opened, it will destroy the entire Kerala [State]."According to the MDMK chief, the movie also downplayed check dam safety. He cited another exchange that said, "It is safe only if there is no dam."He claimed that entrenched interests had produced the movie to instill dread of the dam in the people of Kerala, citing the decision of the expert committee established by the Supreme Court to examine its safety.
