Sleep divorce: The reasons why some couples choose to end their relationship right before bed

Imagine falling asleep for the first time and then being startled awake by a bedquake brought on by your partner's restless leg. Or perhaps you've just pulled the covers tight about you only to have them ripped off again.Some couples have tried sleeping apart as a result of frequent nightly annoyances including loud snores and excessive body heat. This practice, also referred to as "sleep divorce," enables couples to wake up feeling rejuvenated and still together, even if they are in different rooms or beds.When two individuals in a close relationship choose to sleep apart and not share a bed, this is known as a "sleep divorce.
" The Toronto Psychology Clinic's director and clinical psychologist, Dr. Saunia Ahmad, clarified that although they might be in the same room, they aren't actually in the same bed."Divorce doesn't have to be a bad choice, even if the term clearly has a bad connotation.According to Ahmad, she prefers to use the phrase "co-regulating" your sleep because it can be a constructive method to deal with the reality that two individuals have different sleeping habits. According to Ahmad, it's perfectly OK and even beneficial for your relationship if you and your partner have been sleeping in different beds (or have discussed it) in order to have a better night's sleep.
