Live update on farmers' protests: On Friday, December 6, a Punjabi "jatha" (group) of farmers, led by the non-political Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, intends to march from the Shambhu border to the Delhi Parliament. A legal guarantee of the minimum support price for crops, a debt forgiveness, no increases in power rates, pensions for farmers and agricultural laborers, and justice for those who were harmed in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021 and during the farmers' protests in 2020–21 are among their demands.Around 1 pm today, the farmers are expected to start their foot procession from the Shambhu border.Section 163 of the BNS, which forbids the unlawful gathering of groups of four or more individuals, has been enforced together with the deployment of enhanced security at the Shambhu border in the Ambala district of Haryana.Farmers and security forces may clash in Haryana if permission to cross the border is denied, as has happened in the past when protests were put down on February 13 and February 21 of this year. The farmers have stated that they had notified the relevant authorities about their plan in advance, but the police have asserted that the farmers did not seek prior permission prior to the protest.Important points: With security troops stationed at the Singhu border, Delhi police have prepared for the farmers' protest and are "ready to tackle any situation," a representative told PTI.
One of the farmers' protest leaders, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, has been fasting until death for the past ten days near the Khanauri border. In the last ten months, the protesting farmer unions have made three attempts to march to the nation's capital. Police and farmers clashed during the first two attempts, which took place on February 13 and 21. Farmers from Uttar Pradesh who had been demonstrating against government land purchases between 1997 and 2008 in Gautam Buddha Nagar for more than ten days earlier this week called off their protests after receiving promises.
