New Delhi: In an effort to curb drug addiction in the nation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has requested that Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) take appropriate action. The UGC stated that HEIs can take institutional action to raise awareness of the problem of substance usage by using their faculty, NSS volunteers, and student clubs. The UGC noted that students and young are especially vulnerable to this issue.According to UGC, the HEIs must regularly conduct interventions and activities on campus to reduce substance use. "As you are aware, drug addiction is a major challenge in many Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), with numerous cases of youngsters becoming addicted to substance abuse," stated an official notification from the university body.

To lower the nation's drug demand, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSlE) of the Indian government has launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). The program oversees and manages all facets of drug addiction prevention, including information sharing, public awareness campaigns, user treatment and rehabilitation, evaluation of the problem's scope, and prevention action."
