Dr. Willard Cutler, Div. VP & Commercial Technology Director at Corning Environmental Technologies, thinks the move presents a big chance to solve India's ongoing air quality issues as the nation gets ready for the next phase of emission standards, BS7.Cutler pointed out that particulate filters are still not widely used in India's automobile industry, which adds about 25 million new cars a year. He said that increasing the adoption of tested filtering systems may significantly lower particulate emissions from both gasoline and diesel vehicles, especially PM2.5.Cutler emphasized that the necessary technologies have already been developed and verified, drawing on Corning's experience in Europe, China, and North America under Euro 6 and Euro 7 standards. He clarified that rather than reimagining the technology, India will concentrate on tailoring these solutions to local driving circumstances, fuel quality, and pricing considerations.

He admitted that OEMs will have difficulties striking a balance between cost, drivability, fuel efficiency, and emissions compliance. He emphasized, however, that platform-level optimization and calibration, backed by well-known aftertreatment devices like gasoline and diesel particle filters, can assist in meeting stricter requirements without sacrificing performance.According to Cutler, BS7 offers a public health chance to greatly enhance India's air quality in addition to becoming a regulatory milestone.
