Sanjay Leela Bhansali is listed as the only director of the Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, with a few other directors receiving credit at the conclusion of each episode. Actor Mark Bennington, who portrayed the evil British officer Henderson in the show, disclosed in a recent interview that his aides would shoot for hours on end on days when Bhansali wasn't there in order to await the director's permission. He revealed that Bhansali would receive specific footage, which he would either accept or reject. However, on the days when Bhansali directed himself, scenes would be completed in three to five takes.During his first day on the Heeramandi set, Mark noted in an interview with Showsha that Bhansali wasn't there. They were emailing Bhansali clips, which I'm not sure he approved or disapproved of.
They would merely email him the clips, not every clip. I'm not sure. Anyhow. We ultimately did fifteen to twenty-five takes for each arrangement. On a wide picture, it took about 19 takes. "Are you guys kidding me?" I thought. Is this a practical joke? I mistook it for a candid camera. There must be a joke in this. We are unable to perform that many takes. When we come to the close-up and there are two takes, I believed everything would be OK.
