You may have seen little jets of water rising from the moist sand if you have ever strolled along Mumbai's Juhu Beach. It's not the ocean deceiving you; rather, it's a fascinating collection of submerged shellfish called bivalves. Known for their propensity to squirt, these organisms include clams, mussels, and oysters. However, why are they frequently spotted on Juhu Beach and why do they do this? Both freshwater and marine habitats are ideal for bivalves, a kind of mollusk with two hinged shells. Among the most well-known bivalves are the following:Clams – Often found buried in the sand, these little guys filter seawater for food. Scallops – Unlike clams, scallops can move by rapidly squirting water to propel themselves forward. Mussels & Oysters – These species prefer to attach themselves to rocks or other hard surfaces, filtering water as they feed.Because of its sandy shoreline and tide motions, Juhu Beach, along with other beaches worldwide, is an ideal habitat for bivalves.

Visitors and locals alike occasionally observe small water jets from the sand or clams and other bivalves washing up on the shore during low tide, which is proof that these animals are still alive and well beneath their feet!
