This once-brusque city has become an oasis of unity thanks to the Olympics. However, the political and social unrest that existed before the Games hasn't subsided.PARIS: On the banks of the Canal de Saint-Denis, it is one hour before dawn and the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has just concluded. But Parisian DJ Sara Zinger is spinning hit after hit for the youthful audience of hipsters, visitors, and volunteers who are wringing the last bit of positive energy out of these Games at a fan zone that lines a highway bridge close to the Stade de France. Whatever their bedtime, they are aware that France is going to awaken from its Olympic fantasy to a hard reality."Everyone was supporting the French athletes, Black or White, and the Olympics helped bring people together," said Mary Mathurin, 21, a student soaking up the last vestiges of this athletic carnival. "But as soon as we stop focusing on the sports, people are going to start arguing with each other again.

"More than expected, the Olympics have brought smiles to Paris, a city known for its brusqueness, and have made the city an oasis. They have provided a sincere moment of pride and unanimity for this fragmented country. However, social unrest and political unrest plagued France before a ghostly metal horse rode down the Seine. Prior to the Games, the far-right garnered significant victories in elections throughout Europe, which led President Emmanuel Macron to convene an unexpected legislative session with the apparent intention of impeding its growth.
