Judge Surya Kant of the Supreme Court of India has been appointed by the President of India to serve as the next Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). He will take office on May 14, 2025. In accordance with legal custom, he succeeds Justice BR Gavai.The President of India has named Justice Surya Kant, a current Supreme Court of India judge, as the new Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). His appointment, which takes effect on May 14, 2025, is in keeping with the custom of designating the second-most senior apex court judge for this position. The national effort to give free legal assistance and encourage the poor to have access to justice will now be led by Justice Kant.
