India's 19-member team will be led by reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra at the World Athletics Championships 2025, which will take place in Tokyo from September 13–21. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) revealed the 13-man, 6-woman contingent, which combines established athletes with up-and-coming talent.Chopra is still India's best chance to win a gold in the men's javelin throw after successfully defending his global title in Budapest in 2023. Although he had previously surpassed the 85.50m entry requirement earlier in the season, the 26-year-old qualified as the defending champion via a wild card.

Both Yashvir Singh and Sachin Yadav, who earned their spots through the world rankings, will compete with him in the javelin event. But Animesh Kujur of Odisha has the breakthrough story. By being the first Indian male sprinter to qualify for the World Championships and secure a spot in the men's 200m, the national record holder has made history. His involvement represents a turning point for Indian sprinting on the international front.India met entry conditions and obtained four direct credentials. Gulveer Singh (5000m), Praveen Chitravel (triple jump), Parul Chaudhary (3000m steeplechase), and Avinash Sable (3000m steeplechase) had all earned automatic marks. Sable's injury-related departure, however, has been a significant blow to the contingent.
