"Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan and wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik made their return to action on Wednesday at the DY Patil T20 Cup in Talegon, Pune, ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League. In summary, Shikhar Dhawan scored a scorching 39 during his comeback to competitive cricket. On Wednesday, Dinesh Karthik got out for zero in a Twenty20 match in Pune. Karthik and Dhawan are both competing in the DY Patil T20 Cup. The DY Patil T20 Cup in Talegon, Pune, saw the comeback of veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who played an outstanding game. The opener's 28-ball 39 for DY Patil Blue included two sixes and five boundaries, but his efforts were in futile. The opening had not played competitive cricket since the IPL 2023. However, when he played in Tamil Nadu's Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign, Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was out of luck in his first competitive encounter since December 2023. Karthik was playing for DY Patil Blue in the T20 match. Until the just finished 4th Test against England, Karthik was busy in broadcast duties. In the 18th T20 event, Tata Sports Club defeated DY Patil Blue by a score of just one run, meaning that Dhawan's crucial knock was in vain. Tata Sports Club batted first in Talegaon and finished with 185 for nine in their 20 overs. Chinmay Sugar (51: 29b, 8x4) and Apoorva Wankhede (83 n.o.: 42b, 7x4, 5x6) shared 54 runs for the fifth wicket.
Regarding DY Patil Ajay Singh (2-32) and captain Vipul Krishnan (4-42) were the top bowlers for Blue. Abhijit Tomar and Shikhar Dhawan (39: 28b, 5x4, 2x6) opened the chase for Blue, and they quickly added 64 runs in 7.1 overs. After that, Nutan Goel, who was still undefeated at 38 off 35 balls, and Shubham Dubey contributed a crucial 58 runs for the fifth wicket (42: 18b, 6x4, 2x6). Blue finished with 184 for seven in their 20 overs, only one run shy of victory in the end. While playing for Blue, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was dismissed for a first ball duck but managed to grab a vital catch off Samarth Vyas with the gloves. In the other match, Canara Bank defeated Bank of Baroda by a mere two wickets in a thrilling finale with just two balls remaining at the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul. Canara Bank requested Bank of Baroda to bat, and they scored 151 for eight in their 20 overs. For Bank of Baroda, Rohan Kadam (76 n.o.: 54b, 11x4) was the primary batter. Manoj Bhandage (3–34) was Canara Bank's top bowler."
