The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has awarded retainership contracts to a select group of rising Indian speedsters, including highly-rated Karnataka pacer Vidwath Kaverappa, Bengal speedster Akash Deep, who made his Test debut in Ranchi during the current red-ball series against England, and tearaway Umran Malik. As part of a carefully selected group for fast bowling contracts, the BCCI on Wednesday selected promising speedsters Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa. Cricket's highest governing body, the BCCI, announced in an official statement on Wednesday that "the Selection Committee has also recommended Fast Bowling contracts for the following athletes - Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa."
Umran Malik made his limited-overs debut for India after he lit up the speedometer during his breakout season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, reaching speeds of more than 150 kmph.

But Umran lost favour with the national selectors after posting mediocre results in his limited-overs cricket career for India. In the current Ranji season, the 24-year-old Jammu boy has struggled, taking just four wickets in five games for Jammu and Kashmir.
