Praveer Ranjan assumes the role of CISF DG

As part of a significant restructuring of leadership within India’s Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), two senior IPS officers from the 1993 batch have assumed control of important paramilitary organisations. Praveer Ranjan is the new Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Praveen Kumar has been appointed as the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).After their predecessors retired, both officers took up office on September 30, 2025.Praveer Ranjan: New Chief of CISF Cadre: AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) Prior Position: Special DG of CISF, leading the sensitive Airport Security Division. New Position: Director General of the CISF. Successor: R.S. Bhatti, who finished his term and retired. The CISF is essential for safeguarding important national assets, such as: Airports, harbors, and subway networks.

Mr. Ranjan is expected to enhance the CISF’s role in protecting critical infrastructure, given his experience in managing airport security.Praveen Kumar: Chief of ITBP Cadre: IPS officer from the 1993 batch. New Position: Director General of the ITBP. The responsibility of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) includes: Protecting the border between India and China in some of the most challenging high-altitude terrains globally. Carrying out training for mountain warfare. Providing help in rescue missions and disaster relief in the Himalayan areas. Mr. Kumar, as the newly appointed head of ITBP, is expected to concentrate on improving border security readiness and operational capacity in difficult frontier areas.Importance of the Appointments The appointments of Praveer Ranjan and Praveen Kumar come at a pivotal moment when India is confronting: Rising demands for security at vital facilities and transit centers. The necessity of increased watchfulness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
