Since non-communicable diseases (NCDs) accounted for 67.6% of all deaths in 2019, heart disease is becoming a bigger health concern in India. According to a 2021 report by the Thought Arbitrage Research Institute (TARI), 116 Indians out of every 1,000 are predicted to have an NCD. By 2035, heart disease is predicted to rise even more due to an increase in incidences of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.

The key to prevention is leading a heart-healthy lifestyle. Senior Consultant Physician and Noninvasive Cardiologist Dr. Gunjan K. Sharma provides all the information you require:1. Consume a diet that is heart-healthy Cardiovascular risk can be reduced by eating a well-balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, healthy grains, and lean proteins. ● Steer clear of trans fats and choose healthy fats like those found in nuts, avocados, and olive oil. ● Keep your daily salt intake under 5g to lower high blood pressure. ● To reduce cholesterol, incorporate Omega-3s from walnuts, flaxseeds, and fatty fish. Growing initiatives to encourage healthy eating are shown in Singapore's Nutri-Grade food labeling system and Kerala's "fat tax" in India. Front-of-pack labeling and other national initiatives could raise awareness even more.
