Irfan Pathan, a former fast bowler for India, stated that when he said that not all Indian players stayed together in the team hotel during their tour of Australia, he was not referring to Virat Kohli. After a fan on social media conjectured about a hidden message in his post on X, formerly Twitter, Pathan clarified that his comments were not meant for Virat Kohli.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a strict 10-point disciplinary guideline not long before Pathan made his comments.
