For Indians working in the culinary field, December 2023 was particularly memorable since it marked the achievement of Mumbai-born chef Garima Arora, who became the first Indian woman to receive the coveted two Michelin stars. We had a virtual conversation with Arora about her background, her cooking philosophy, and how she is now paving the path for future chefs in the field. Below are edited excerpts:When I was a child, I eagerly anticipated my father's return from his trips. When he got home, he would make us delicious, unusual meals that he had enjoyed while traveling.

He loved to cook, and he would spend hours preparing mouthwatering meals for our family.I used to be so excited to taste new cuisines and flavors as a kid. My father greatly influenced me with his passion for food.I'm overjoyed. Receiving accolades is a fantastic way for our team to feel validated. The diligence and commitment of my culinary crew have been crucial to our success.
