The Supreme Court Collegium suggests that Justices Alok Aradhe of the Bombay High Court and Vipul Pancholi of the Patna High Court be promoted to the highest court.On August 25, 2025, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, recommended the elevation of Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Chief Justices of the Patna High Court and Bombay High Court, respectively, in a major move to fill open positions in the Supreme Court of India. If the Center confirms these nominations, the highest court's 34-judge sanctioned strength will be restored.Chief Justices Alok Aradhe and Vipul Manubhai Pancholi of the Bombay and Patna High Courts should be promoted to the position of supreme court judges, according to a Monday recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai.On the list of High Court Chief Justices, Justice Aradhe comes in at number three, while Justice Pancholi comes in at number 19. Madhya Pradesh is the parent High Court of Justice Aradhe, while Gujarat is the parent court of Justice Pancholi.
Born in April 1964, Justice Aradhe became a Permanent Judge of the High Court in February 2011 after being appointed as an Additional Judge of Madhya Pradesh in December 2009.He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court for over three months, from May to August 2018, after being transferred there in 2016. From July to October 2022, Justice Aradhe served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court after being transferred there as a judge. In July 2023, he was named Chief Justice of Telangana. On January 21, 2025, he was moved to the Bombay High Court and became its Chief Justice.Born in Ahmedabad on May 28, 1968, Justice Pancholi was affirmed as a Gujarat High Court Permanent Judge in June 2016. On July 21, 2025, he was named Chief Justice of the Patna High Court after being relocated there in July 2023.
