According to Dr. Vaibhav Mishra, senior director of cardiac surgery at Max Hospital in Patparganj, breath exercises like diaphragmatic breathing and pranayama or box breathing help increase lung capacity.Vidyut Jammwal, a commando actor and mixed martial artist, has advised everyone to learn breathing techniques. "Ten kilometers of running or cardiovascular strength equals five minutes of breathwork per day," Jammwal stated at the 2024 Action Hero Fitness Awards. The claim that five minutes of breathing each day is equivalent to ten kilometers of running each day for cardiovascular strength "isn't quite accurate and far too simplistic," according to Dr. Vaibhav Mishra, senior director of cardiac surgery at Max Hospital in Patparganj. "Although breath training has a place in health, it cannot take the place of mild aerobic exercise like running or other types," Dr. Mishra stated.

Pranayama, or box breathing, and diaphragmatic breathing are examples of breath training techniques that can enhance oxygen delivery and lung capacity while lowering blood pressure and stress levels. Therefore, cardiovascular health can be indirectly improved by reducing the strain on the heart and increasing oxygen efficiency. For someone who wants to improve their health but is unable to participate in high-intensity exercises, it can be a terrific place to start, according to Dr. Mishra.According to Dr. Mishra, running 10 km a day is likely to be classified as an exercise requiring a greater amount of physical exertion; the benefits include enhanced circulation, increased aerobic capacity, cardiac strengthening, and increased calorie burning.
