Virender Sehwag believes that the Mumbai Indians, who are now bottom of the IPL 2024 points standings, may decide to bench both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya for the upcoming campaign. With all ten teams free to keep any players they choose, the IPL 2025 super auctions are set for later this year. Given MI's disappointing season this year, it's possible that the team will join the league without Rohit and Hardik.Since MI's opening match of the season, Hardik, the team's new captain, has been completely out of it. He has amassed 200 runs and taken 11 wickets while doing little to improve. Conversely, Rohit had a great start to the IPL, smashing his second century, but he quickly faltered. The former MI captain's performance has declined to such an extent that Team India is worried about him ahead of the T20 World Cup. Additionally, Sehwag feels that Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah are the only two players MI can now rely on for next year's IPL because both Rohit and Hardik are struggling with bad form amidst the whole captaincy transfer controversy.Tell me something, please. Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan together won't make a movie a success. Will it not? I take it you'll have to put on a show? Have a strong screenplay. In a similar vein, all these well-known figures will need to unite and play live. MI lost despite a century from Rohit Sharma.
"Where are the remaining performances happening?" Cricbuzz was told by Sehwag."Ishan Kishan participated in every game of the season, but he was unable to go past the Powerplay. For MI, at this point, just two names are definite: Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. The top two names will remain unchanged. And we'll see if it ultimately comes down to the third or fourth option."Tiwary and Sehwag click. Former Indian batsman Manoj Tiwary reiterated Sehwag's remarks, advising the MI team management to consider Bumrah or SKY for their future captain. While Suryakumar was named captain of a T20I series against Australia and in South Africa shortly after the World Cup last year, Bumrah has led India in three T20Is against Ireland and a Test match against England. With 20 wickets taken, Bumrah stands second in the Orange Cap standings, while Suryakumar has amassed 345 runs, including a century. Tiwary is certain that Rohit won't return for a second season, thus MI would be wise to invest in any of the two."Bumrah and SKY are the two players that I believe the Mumbai Indians will keep." No one outside of them, no outsiders either.
Tim David has failed to live up to expectations. I would advise the management to name one of the two players as captain and to keep only Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Seeing as how he seems to not want to be retained, I am not keeping Rohit either," Tiwary continued.
