SC notifies NMC and MP Medical College regarding the request of international medical graduates

In addition to the NMC and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Vidisha, the bench also sent notice to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council on the case filed by the five, which included Sajith SL of Thiruvananthapuram, and scheduled a hearing for March 11.The National Medical Commission (NMC) and a government medical institution in Madhya Pradesh were contacted by the Supreme Court on Tuesday to provide answers to complaints made by some foreign medical graduates over their lack of stipend payment during their internship.The claims of lawyer Tanvi Dubey, who represented five doctors who received their degrees from overseas medical colleges, that they should be treated equally with those who completed their MBBS from Indian universities were noted by a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.In addition to the NMC and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Vidisha, the bench also sent notice to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council on the case filed by the five, which included Sajith SL of Thiruvananthapuram, and scheduled a hearing for March 11.During the brief hearing, Dubey contended that despite the NMC's statement stating that these students would be treated equally to Indian medical graduates, they are being denied their legitimate entitlement to a monthly stipend.
The appeal requested the issuance of a suitable writ instructing Respondent No. 1 (medical college) to give the Petitioners and students on the list a regular monthly salary for the duration of their internship.It also asked for guidance from the NMC and others on how much should be paid to these students during their internship, in accordance with the guidelines that other medical colleges adhere to. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College in Vidisha is where these students are presently completing their internship.The plea also made reference to the notice from the Government Medical Education Department of Madhya Pradesh dated November 17, 2022, which stipulated that interns will receive a stipend of Rs 12,760 starting on April 1, 2022.
