In an effort to increase the nation's declining birth rate, China is pushing colleges and universities to offer "love education" that emphasizes positive perspectives on marriage, love, fertility, and family.Following China's second straight year of population drop in 2023, Beijing has been pushing a number of policies aimed at making having children more appealing to young couples. With 1.4 billion people, China has the second-largest population in the world. However, as the population ages rapidly, the government will have to spend more money in the future, which will put strain on the economy.

According to the Jiangsu Xinhua media group, which cited China Population News, an official publication, college students will be the main source of childbearing, but they have drastically altered their perspectives on marriage and love."Colleges and universities should assume the responsibility of providing marriage and love education to college students by offering marriage and love education courses," wrote the journal. The actions would contribute to the development of a "healthy and positive marriage and childbearing cultural atmosphere." In order to address China's population loss and promote respect for reproduction and weddings "at the right age," the state council, or cabinet, mobilized local governments in November. However, demographers predicted that the actions would not be well received by young Chinese.
