The life-saving Safer Births program expands to more than 150 Tanzanian hospitals, affecting thousands of medical professionals.

With the goal of lowering maternal and newborn mortality, Tanzania has started implementing the second phase of the Safer Birth Bundle of Care (SBBC) initiative, which is targeting 152 hospitals across 5 regions. The expansion comes after 30 hospitals implemented SBBC between 2020 and 2023; the initial findings were encouraging, showing decreases in ProceededThe scale-up comes after 30 hospitals implemented SBBC between 2020 and 2023. The implementation produced encouraging preliminary results, such as 50% and 45% decreases in maternal and newborn mortality, respectively, with certain locations seeing reductions of 70%.
