On September 9, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Punjab to evaluate the flood damage; the state estimates the loss at Rs 13,289 crores.

CHANDIGARH: On September 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Punjab to conduct an airborne survey to assess the state's flood situation. He will also travel to Himachal Pradesh, a nearby hill state. In the meantime, the floods that have devastated the state have cost the Punjab government an estimated Rs 13,289 crore.Modi will assess the flood-affected areas, especially border districts, from the air, according to sources. The state administration has been informed of the finalized official schedule.The prime minister is really worried about the flood situation in Punjab and is keeping a careful eye on it, according to Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar. "In order to give the people of Punjab the best help possible, he is traveling there on September 9 to personally evaluate the local situation and comprehend the realities on the ground," he stated.Two central government teams that traveled to Punjab to evaluate the flood damage are scheduled to present their findings to the Center, Jakhar continued. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Minister of Agriculture, had previously been dispatched to assess the situation.
The prime minister is scheduled to meet with state government officials in Pathankot after conducting an aerial reconnaissance of flood-affected areas.As many pilgrims lost their lives during the Manimahesh Yatra, a state BJP leader stated, "He will land in Kangra and, if the weather permits, fly to Bharmour in Chamba district to take stock of the situation, or otherwise is expected to travel by road and then return to Kangra." According to sources, Modi is also expected to emphasize the pressing need to fortify the embankments along the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ghaggar rivers, which have deteriorated over time as a result of illicit mining and neglect.To evaluate the flood situation, two central teams traveled to Punjab on Saturday. One team was led by Santosh Kumar Tiwari of the Ministry of Rural Development, and the other by Rajesh Gupta of the Ministry of Home Affairs. They met with a state delegation that included other administrative secretaries and was led by Chief Secretary K A P Sinha.
