The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports was recently provided with IIT placement data for the previous four years by the union government. These are the institutions where placement rates have dropped the most.According to data given by the union government to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports, 22 out of the 23 IITs—aside from IIT (BHU) Varanasi—saw a decrease in placements in 2023–24 as compared to 2021–22.More than half of educational institutions saw a 10% decline in enrollment or other important measures between 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, according to government data.

A more thorough explanation of what the data indicates is provided below: Decline in Enrollment: A decrease in school and college enrollments is mentioned in a number of sources; some attribute this to the removal of duplicate enrollments, inflated statistics, increased tuition fees, and a lack of financial help. Placements loss: A number of reports also point to a reduction in IIT placement rates, with IIT-Delhi reporting a notable 17 percentage point loss in placements. Funding Reduction: There is proof that several education programs, such as the one for minorities and madrasas, are receiving less money, with allocations being significantly cut. Contributing Factors to Decline: Rising tuition prices, a lack of financial help, job market competitiveness, and a bad reputation for the school are some potential causes of the fall.

Particular Examples: From 174 crores in 2021–2022 to just 2 crores in 2024–2025, the education program for Madrasas and Minorities suffered a decrease in funding. Placements at IIT-Delhi fell from 89.88% in 2022–2023 to 72.81% in 2023–2024.
