A day after a major fire killed seven newborn babies and injured five more, the Delhi Police on Sunday arrested Dr. Naveen Khichi, the owner of the Baby Care New Born facility in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar, and Dr. Akash, who was on duty. After the incident, Kichi fled, and now he is being brought to the Vivek Vihar police station in Shahdara. The owner has been charged under sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary.Officials from the fire department report that the fire started at the hospital on Saturday night at around 11:30 p.m. and quickly spread to two more nearby buildings. Atul Garg, the chief of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), stated that although 12 infants were saved from the hospital, seven of them perished.
Five infants with mild burn injuries are currently receiving care. Garg went on to say that the operation was quite difficult. "We divided into two groups. A succession of blasts of cylinders, as we may call it, prompted one team to begin combating fires. Thus, we also needed to save ourselves. We also initiated baby rescue activities.Locals and representatives of an NGO were the first to come to aid, according to the eyewitnesses. A few inhabitants scaled the structure from the rear and saved a few babies.
