A new PhD fellowship has been announced by IIT Kanpur.

Full-time PhD students presently enrolled at IIT Kanpur who submit their theses within five years of enrolling in the program are now eligible to apply.The Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE), a new program to identify and assist excellent PhD candidates who have remarkable academic and research talents, was launched today by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). According to the press release, the fellowship seeks to support high-caliber research output while encouraging the prompt completion of PhD studies.Full-time PhD students presently enrolled at IIT Kanpur who submit their theses within five years of enrolling in the program are now eligible to apply.Although the fellowship duration will be modified appropriately, students who turn in their theses within five years and six months are also eligible.

At least one research paper directly related to their PhD study that has been approved or published as the first author in a reputable journal or conference proceedings is one of the eligibility requirements. The fellowship is available to students starting in the Y18 batch.In addition to other research-related funding, the fellowship provides financial support for a maximum of 12 months, with a stipend equal to that of post-doctoral fellows at the Institute. Although, as stated in the announcement, cooperation with other faculty members will be permitted throughout the fellowship period, the mentor will still be the existing thesis supervisor.
