Only parents who have children understand the genuine challenges of child care. That is, child care is not considered a major societal concern unless it interferes with an individual's capacity to perform their job or fulfill their obligations to employers. The lack of child care options would cause Nevada's workforce and economy to come to a complete halt.A child care symposium was held by the Vegas Chamber Foundation on July 23rd, and those interested in resolving the child care dilemma in the Silver State, including parents, employers, and community members, participated. The state of our child care desert, as described by policymakers and government officials, is characterized by a severe shortage of high-quality child care facilities relative to the demand for them, low pay for caregivers, and negative effects on families, employers, and kids.

As parents of little children, we understand that child care is more than just a contentious policy issue for the Nevada Legislature in 2025, as do a great number of Nevadans. Parents must continue to piece together a daily puzzle in order to be employed. We see you, families who depend on center-based child care so they can keep working. We see you, single parents juggling schedules with babysitters to take care of their kids. To the Nevadans fortunate enough to have the multigenerational assistance of grandparents and extended family to watch their children while they work — we see you. To the families who are impatiently hoping that their child's name would rise to the top of the waiting list at the daycare center of their choice
